Been a long time, Rennlist...2006 Cayenne Turbo@$22K--good deal?
Long time boarder but been too long without pcars...unfortunately my favorite air cooled options are out as I am not made of solid gold, but boy am I missing my 993, 3.2M491 and 356B right about now....I'd triple my net worth
Anyhow, I have a family on the way soon and currently have a V10 S8 that I really like but am thinking a Cayenne may be a better all around vehicle with similar fun, and I miss Porsche. So, I have found a Turbo with ~65K miles on it for $22K....read the threads about reliability, etc, just wondering what people are thinking of for that price point right now.
Any thoughts/horror stories/opinions, etc are more than welcome!
Thanks

Even with the very low miles, that price is on the high side. In my area, ~$18K would be a fair price.
Also with that mileage, there's a good chance it still has the original plastic coolant pipes and Ts. If you do your own wrenching, figure on $650 bucks and a long afternoon.
Personally, I sought out a Cayenne with original pipes, that way I knew for sure that no idiot ever overheated the engine and soaked the torque converter seal with coolant.

Thanks George--I can do basic stuff so can read the DIY guides and probably replace the pipes with my more experienced buddy. Glad to hear that there is room to move there in pricing as well--I'll keep my eyes out for more options. A Porsche dealer is selling this car which could be part of the higher price, but I'm waiting for a call back on details about the maintenance.

Thanks Dilberto--KBB and Edmunds say between $18500 and $21K for Dealer retail, so I'll definitely ask what preventive repairs have been done in the usual areas. @Dilberto, is your Jimi fix still working from your Cardan repair?

Well, car sold today so it's gone. However, I am in the market for ideally a low-ish mileage 2006 Turbo, so if anyone knows of any let me know. I'd like to buy from a dealer since I have an S8 to trade in as well rather than having to buy and sell on both ends.

I am in your area and that does not seem out of whack to me at all for the mileage, in fact it may be a low reflecting the few buyers for an 11 year old luxury car over 20k. A low mile 06 Twin Turbo S - that is a unicorn both the model and the mileage. I saw one up here that was purple I think and another black for over 30 just last year. Of course they did not sell at that.
Condition matters a huge amount. Rust is a worry which is why I bought from California and shipped it.
Even though this is a rare car, I would negotiate heavily on price. We are halfway through a very mild winter (so far) and people don't splurge in January/Feb so I think you are in a good position. That said if I was in the market I would be driving there this afternoon to check it out.
**just saw you say it sold. I am not surprised** I will look for it on the road, aren't many of us left

@reachme, it was not a Turbo S but just a Turbo. Still, they are hard to find on the East Coast at least for the last month or so! Gonna keep my eyes out. I'm not averse to shipping the right car across country [have done it twice] but arranging PPIs with dealers I don't know, etc can be a challenge. Let me know if you see anything out there worth looking at!

Chao--appreciate the heads up, that looks like a nice one and I saw the thread; Ideally want to deal with a dealer since I have a car to trade with a loan on it--don't want to deal with the double hassle of selling mine then buying another--who knows maybe I'll put my S8 up and see if I get a quick bite but with winter here I can't really drive my GTV or old Land Cruiser in the snow unless I want them rusting out, especially as this search will probably take a while

Sorry you missed out on that Cayenne Turbo. 22k with the low mileage was a fair price assuming excellent condition. Personally, I would rather be driving a low mileage CTT for 22k than searching for one at 18k. Be prepared to put another 2k into your new CTT getting it sorted out and you will be a happy owner. Good luck and hope you find one soon.
