Wow. How many hours of labor do you estimate this conversion will have taken by the end? I can't even guess, but it looks like they are doing it right.

You are a patient man, considering you started with a perfectly good car at the beginning!

Yup, car was pristine at the beginning (28,000 miles). It wasn't supposed to take anywhere near this long - target was last Nov/Dec, so although I might have been patient at the beginning, it's waning now, but don't want to rush them through the final steps, so trying to keep my cool with the end-product in mind making me persevere.

I also have no idea what the hour tally will be - I'm actually not sure the shop has been keeping good records of that either, and am frankly hoping that as long as it's taken, they'll just throw out a reasonable round number like $5k for installation and $5k for paint and give me a $10k invoice, but we'll see what happens - that might be wishful thinking

I have some new pics from today with the roof painted now. We need to live closer and create a Cayenne timeshare with your monster powerplant in my widebody

The body shop painted the roof over the weekend. I told them to absolutely not take any of the Pano roof apart and to just mask it off as a large central fixture and paint around it. No way I was going to risk trying to get the complex mechanism installed again and adjusted properly.

they also started disassembling the rear roof spoiler to get it off of the car so all the little channels and layers could be painted properly.

The close-up of the paint is actually on the B-pillar that will be covered up by the satin aluminum trim so don't worry about flaws in it, but it was where I could capture the light the best to really see the color and pearl effect the paint will have.

Default Nov 1 Update

Quick update with a couple photos. The exterior has been stripped of all emblems, rear hatch panels and spoiler disassembled, and they're getting ready to start on the painting, which is why the old gloss black paint is now scratchy grey.

Very much looking forward to seeing the car all one color again

Well, here it is......

Finally, most of the body is now 1 color. To refresh your memories, we went with PorscheOnyx White Pearl Effect Metallic (oryxweiß perlmutteffekt C9A 0K01 / Oryx White Pearl Effect C9A 0K01' - code 0K1), and in person, it is just beautiful. The indoor photos don't really do it justice and I'm very pleased with the result, especially since these photos are straight out of the paint booth without any buffing or corrections made. The silver trim is also a very good compliment to the pearl white so glad I decided to keep that to add some character.

They will still be doing more painting - hood, Yakima Skybox top, front bumper, mirrors, door handles, etc but to see the majority of the body put together and in a single color is really nice after all this time.

Rear Bumper and Rear Spoiler has also been painted (preserved the functionality of the park assist sensors, moving them over from the OEM bumpers). Once these are reinstalled, along with the taillights, the rear should be done.

They're supposed to work on the front bumper & hood this coming weekend, after which everything should be painted, including the top of my Yakima Skybox to match.
