Question high idle on cold start post drive belt replacement

2006 CS Ti, 121,xxx miles. Replaced the serpentine belt which requires disconnecting the throttle position sensor. Now when I start it cold the idle is 1000rpm. It settles to 500 rpm after a minute or so once it starts warming up and driveability is the same as before. Is there a relearning that needs to be done for the TPS?

I am pretty sure it has always done this on cold start and you just did not notice. It seems to me there is a large number of Porsche models that also do this.

No, I've paid attention. It's always been 500rpm right off.

Might be a coincidence between the timing of weather now getting cooler and the belt service you just did. If it's cool enough now to trigger the warm up protocol, the car will start and runs at a higher idle to warm the cats before dropping to a normal idle.

I've been thinking exactly that. This morning it was 75 and the idle was ~500rpm on startup. Previous times it may have been around 60 or so. That said, when I first started it post work it was in the evening and still quite warm. Guess I'll know for sure when the cold comes back.

You haven't paid that much attention if you are sure it has ALWAYS been 500rpms at startup, LOL.

Petza914 is correct on the temp being the cause for the higher idle. Yesterday morning was below 60F and the idle was 1000 rpm for a minute or so until it warmed up some. Above 70F it appears is the cutoff for the cold idle function. So, Nodoors, I do pay attention.

I wrote COLD start in my first response and Petza was nice enough to further elaborate.

If you want to continue to take yourself so seriously do so, but the only point you have made by posting back your curt responses is that you are ungrateful of others donating their time and knowledge to help you solve a problem. Thanks for letting me know it is not worth my time to try to help you again in the future! ;-)

When you disconnect the DBW throttle body with the battery connected usually you need to do a relearn. Stock idle speed is 550 +/-

Nodoors, first I want to apologize for my curt response. I misinterpreted your response as a slight towards me when you said I wasn't paying attention. Let me explain why. You mentioned cold start which I take to mean the engine temp, as in the engine isn't warmed up. I did not know you were meaning the air temp, which Petza specified. If you want me to take comments as humorous digs then you'll need to not be so subtle. I may miss it and take it wrong.

As for being grateful to others for their help I was. If you never want to help me with any future problems that's fine. Thanks for letting me know you thought I was being a jerk.

Tom
