2005 Cayenne Turbo issues

There is also the related speed sensor harness inside the transmission that can be replaced.
Both sensor / wiring replacement will require transmission removal and disassembly to access.
Transmission replacement is required as Porsche does not offer them as replacement items, and would probably be the most practical solution.

There are input and output shaft speed sensors inside the transmission, and they can be changed.

VAG code 17105 correlates to OBDII code P0721.
Fault lies with the output shaft speed sensor circuit G195.
It looks like it may be able to be changed with just the valve body removed.
Item 31 is the component.

they're throwing a new valve body in it, really hope it's the problem...

They did get a sensor in and tried to install but I guess it wasn't there? Are they transmissions the same on both the VW and Porsche? Is it possible on the Cayenne the sensor is on the valve body instead of the trans?

I just talked to the dealer and here's what happening. The vehicle will move, slip out of gear and slam back into gear, setting off the sensor he says. He recommends a whole new transmission because he thinks the chances of being a valve body aren't good. He thinks the sensor is fine, it's the trans slipping causing the sensor to throw the fault code. Thoughts??

Drifting
Putting in just the valve body is easy. Have them do that. It may save you a bunch. If it does not work you would just lose the labour and supplies for the valve body. That is assuming the valve body is re used for the second tranny. For one of these aisin trannies to go bad after only 85k would be really odd, unless it had been run very low on fluid. JMHO as the tranny replace is worth?

Thank you for the reply! I can have them install a used trans with 86k and a year warranty for a bit more than the valve body but a fraction of a new transmission. If I roll the dice with the valve body and it doesn't work, I'd be on the hook for $2500 PLUS the new tranny. So it seems like an extra $1900 to for sure fix the problem is worth it to me...
