Assuming one wants to keep the car for at least 120Kmi, does anyone believe that the tranny and diff fluids can really last that long? Seems that all of the metal particulates are in there for too long, causing higher wear and possibly even varnish build up. In all of my previous cars (with synthetic and regular ATF), the recommended replacement interval has been 30Kmi.

They could last up to 120k miles, but I wouldn't recommend leaving it that late. I had the transmission, diffs and transfer box oils changed at around 60k miles and the transmission and rear diff oils were in really poor state - extremely dirty and they didn't smell normal.
