Question Engine Squeal

Just started hearing this engine squeal. 2009 Cayenne S with 152K miles. Runs and idles fine. I hear the squeal when it first starts for about 15-20 seconds and then sometimes when idling. When I rev the motor it stops. I uploaded a video recording the sound here:

Doesn't sound like a belt to me.

Any ideas?

I think you may be right. I took all the plastic covers off the top of the engine so I could hear the noise better and it definitely sounds like its coming from the water pump. The pulley is tight and I don't see any signs of a leak.

Any idea on how safe it is to drive until I can get it fixed?

This could be the oil separator membrane.. a vacuum leak.

I took the oil separator apart and the diaphragm pretty much fell apart as I inspected it. Not sure if it had holes before but it certainly does now. Will order a new one in the morning.

Replaced the air/oil separator and the squeal went away. That's an expensive piece of plastic.

Glad it worked out for you. I was able to temporarily repair by using saran wrap under the cap. That worked for a few months!
