Default Age vs Miles

Most things being equal, what would you value more: a vehicle with about 10k per year in miles but a year older, or a vehicle with 15k per year in miles but a year younger?

Price and options are roughly the same.

Exhibit 1: 2011 CTT with 54k miles priced at $47k (driven approx 10k per year)

Exhibit 2: 2012 CTT with 69k miles priced at $48k (driven approx 15-16k per year)

Generally I'd prefer a lower mile car but in this case, I almost feel like a higher mileage newer vehicle is the better choice since it's a bit newer and at that kind of mileage many of them almost had to be on the highway.

The 2012 is also new enough to have not been affected by the issue with cam adjuster bolts and that is a major concern for me.

Thoughts?

#2 is a bit heavier on the options. It's also black/black - a color lots of people find appealing (I love the look and hate the car because of the heat it soaks up..) In my case I'd want to see service records for both vehicles - that will tell you if one is worth buying vs the other.

As far as "highway" miles - that's salesman-talk bull****. Miles are miles - one that does highway miles does lots of other miles getting to and from the highway.

It depends. Are both cars located in the same part of the country?

City cars will have lower miles but heavier wear and tear per mile on equipment compared to country cars.

I am with Done E on this.

If in the US compare the CARFAX. The one with a traceable maintenance history wins my vote.

One serviced by a P dealer receives extra consideration.

Agree. I was just in the same situation recently making the same decision on a 958 CTT purchase. I chose one with a few more miles than some of the others I looked at, because this was the only one with complete detailed service records, all work having been done by the Porsche dealer that originally sold it, and I bought it from the same dealer after the original owner traded it on his new '16 CTT. It's a 'known entity' so to speak, I think that's the way to go. Eliminates a lot of mystery and unknowns. Plus it helped of course that this one had the options and packages I was seeking, to include the Sport Pkg.

So get one with detailed records if you can. It means a lot.

On a vehicle that can last 200k+ miles, 15k miles is not worth worrying about.
