When Did Paddle Shifters Become Standard?
When did paddle shifters - not the rocker switches - become standard equipment all across the Cayenne line?
Was it 2016 or was it earlier?
Are there any known issues with them?

It was the 958.2 that got them standard. The .1 had the option and I don't think the older models had the option at all.
I believe the .2 came out for MY 16, but I could be wrong and it may have been 15.

MY15 was when Porsche designers pulled their craniums out of their nether regions and made the paddle shifters standard, and coupled with multifunction capabilties, causing envy amongst all. The trade off was no more N/A V8

Ah. IIRC the paddle shifters could be ordered previously but only with the sport steering wheel which had no multi-function functions. Am I right?

RBaron, that's correct, you either had the choice of the standard multi-function wheel with buttons, or the sport design with paddle shifters (which is what I have).. both were no charge options..

There is a guy on 6spd (from Russia I think?) that claims it is possible to put the .2 wheel in a .1, but I have yet to see actual evidence of it and all he'll provide is "your dealer can do the reprogramming" and "you need this part too" (where he shows a picture but provides no P/N).
Assuming it really is possible on the 958.1, I would expect the 955/957 to be more difficult due to the many software changes when they switched to the 958 and made things harder to work with (e.g. why Durametric is near useless on a 958).
Between the two .1 options I would expect the sport (paddles only) wheel to be the easier of the 2 to make work, but I don't know if it would be plug and play. In the .1 if you want to go from the MF wheel to the sport wheel you need to replace the switch cluster too (adds a stalk for some of the MF wheel functions) and the car needs to be reprogrammed.

From a Macan, but it's the same wheel:

The Tiptronic wheel *****/buttons/rockers are the only thing I don't like about my Cayenne. They sit right where I rest my thumbs, cold, hard, and uncomfortable. Heated wheel doesn't help obviously. I looked into retrofitting the Sport Design wheel, but the part alone is well over $1,500 by itself. I'll just have cold thumbs.
