I'm looking at an 04 CTT or an 06 s all things being equal which way should I lean?
There are at 100k for $ 14k

Which one has better records?

Which one has the coolant pipes (plus "Ts" on the CTT) done?

Which one is optioned better? Pano roof & Keyless are not "better" IMO.

Which one has a color you prefer (both in & out)?

The S has a reputation for cylinder wall scoring. The turbos are less likely to experience that. It's more likely in a colder climate too (like "up nort" in Canada).

I would think that will sway your opinion a bit.

Being from Canada, I would look for a turbo. How it was taken care of is the deal breaker. If you have any doubts as to the maintenance and care, keep looking. There are well maintained ones around. As for the coolant pipes, I would prefer one with the original plastic, knowing they haven't failed yet, rather than one that has failed, then replaced after coolant filled the valley the starter is in, and possibly compromising the torque converter seal.

In addition to what mtnrat said, there are many people who will continue to drive along with steam pouring from under the hood, warning lights on and a pegged temperature gauge. It's the mindset of I'll just get to the next exit or make it home. Great way to end up with scored cylinder walls.
I bet less than 1% of Cayennes that have had the pipes changed out had it done for proactive reasons...and you have to wonder just how bad of a situation it was.

When I changed mine, I took plenty of pictures to put in my maintenance records as proof that I didn't wait until it was too late.

That's a good idea with the pictures. I am going to do that and staple them to the parts receipts.

I'll drive them both then do a PPI .

All things being equal (cond., records, common fixes) I'd favor the Turbo unless you're a serious handling guy. The CTT is just more fun more often. And the Turbo seems to have a better record than the S for cyl scoring in cold climates.

I think once you drive the Turbo, you won't have any questions about which car. ;-)
