2006 Cayenne v6 ... what are the issues?
Any major issues with the v6 engine? What is its equivalent of coolant pipes?

I have one, and I don't know of any major issues. the VW VR6 has always been know as pretty bulletproof. It is underpowered of course, so the engine may have worked hard...

This would be for the wife so power is not really an issue...
We love our CS so much that I am considering selling our truck and finding a base C for her and driving the CS. What a great suv.

No issues for me at all besides regular service throughout its 75k miles. Mine is the higher hp/torque in the 957. It has been much more reliable than my old Cayenne V8; service costs are lower, too. I sometimes miss the low end torque of the V8 on steeper uphills, until I changed my driving style wherein it's similar to driving my high rpm race cars.
Handling balance is also better with less weight in front. No understeer.

Has your wife been driving the CS? If so, she might not be happy with the V6. My wife went from a (barely running) Mitsubishi Endeavor to the '06 V6, so she loves her "new" V6. The V6 handles great (better than great, actually). As noted above the balance is fantastic. The power, however, is just barely enough for the 5000+ lb truck.
It's like the salesmen at Lexus used to say, "Don't drive the IS350 if you can only afford the IS250. You'll never be happy with it." The 2.5L was plenty enough for the IS, but the 3.5L just made such an impressive car that the 2.5L became "ho-hum."
As for issues: From the research I've seen that others have been kind enough to post here, the V6 has some of the same issues (ie. cardan shaft) but is free of the most common headaches (ie. coolant pipes). As always, a thorough inspection will suit you well!

78k miles on my V6. Only issues are cardan shaft at about 55k and now the navi/stereo head unit is acting up. Need to take it to a local shop to repair, they quoted $650. Other than that, no issues at all. Probably the best driving and handling SUV I've ever experienced.

85k currently. Same as v8. Cardan at approx 80k. Fuel pump at ~ 70k. Coils at like 60k.
I Jimi the shaft. $2.00 on parts
Coils were $120 all 6 at vw online. Only 1 was bad.
Pumps was ~$1000 in parts including filter. $600 for labor. Only 1 side was bad.

The only problem with the 6 is the fuel consumption, which is actually slightly worse than the S.
