The V6 is not an Autobahn burner, but it will get the job done. Ours keeps on strutting – a good utility vehicle for those of us that like to have control of our vehicles.
If you still have the '88 Turbo S, then your speed fix is fine. The '88 944 Turbo is an excellent car, even today.
P.S. I would know, had one and loved it.

as ;previously mentioned Cardan shaft (hangar bearing), fuel pump (recall item). also be sure to check the sunroof drains, they plug up and either flood your headliner or floor (where battery is located), not a bad idea to remove the floor drains. not sure if it shares the vw transmission but the controller fails often. also brakes and tires get used often as heavy vehicle. otherwise it has been great.

We get about 23 highway with our 2009 V6 between 70-80 mph. Have 110K miles, smooth as glass. DFI changeover for the 957 in 2008. Since it has a track tested top speed of 143 mph, which is faster than almost any muscle car from the 70s, that's plenty. We also have a 2006 MT C4 Cab for a little more umph. Top speed claimed to be 181 mph, feels great just up to 80 (again). I think the 957 Base model has a good combination of strong axles and transfer case, along with lighter loading of tiptronic and drivetrain. Have changed x-fer case fluid, fron and rear diff, and flushed transmission. Excellent truck !
The V6 engine calls for the Porsche C30 spec oil (not A40) so I use-
