So funny interaction, my buddy just got a new gig @ the local P dealer, he's 2 days in...so i felt a little better working with a local dealer.
Talked to the service manager and he was like, "what kind of car are you looking @ etc.....before I let you waste your money on a PPI?".
I told him the scenario, he said point blank, if I pay more than 8-10k Im crazy....even with the power pack??? He just said the 04/05 are still different cars under the hood and could recommend 2006 and above.
Is this just old tactics I'm not used too since I have not worked with a dealer since 2008 or is the guy really looking out for me?

It's the same under the hood. Once you've broke 100K miles, all the alpha beta problems would have been worked out.....hopefully. If this were in the 40-80k mileage range where some defective parts might still be alive and kicking (but not for long) I would go for an 06. All else being equal - they're the same.
Don't underestimate what it takes just in parts to get a car sorted, though. In the Porsche world, it's never cheaper to buy a fixer upper.

Update
I waited and found a carefully owned, 2005 Artic silver TT. Excellent paint, interior fresh and clean.
Did PPI etc
138k miles and paid around 10k before I do TTL.

Please take some pics of all these projects for us, please! I am always curious to see the methods people use to drop the engine/subframe as well as who is rebuilding turbos and how, etc.

The number of CTTs grows in SoCo! Doc Olson in Ouray has a dark blue 955TT, might be a TTS. I have a grey 957 TT in Ridgway. Silver 955 TT in Austin. Nice! Great mtn cars. Have fun with the projects!
