Thanks for the advice and confirmation re the column, much appreciated.
I know they have put a new battery on the car already and presume that they still have a problem, hence their advice. However, I will confirm that today.
Is it possible for a failed steering sensor to take the control module with it also, meaning I could potentially need both parts? My gut tells me that one electronic part failure should not lead to another part failing.
Interestingly I can get the new column, delivered out of the USA to Sydney Australia for just over 1/3 of the price that an independent specialist wants for the same thing here!

Hi first time doing this but I am lost and sad cuz I have a 2004 cayenne s porsche and got the same problem my porsche won't turn on and say steering faulty to . The mechanic is charging me over 2,700.00 for part and labor but I don't have that kind of money just now .can anybody help get the part s a little cheaper. Just cause I am driving a porsche don't mean i have lots of money tho .

I am having problems with the fuel gauges my husband replace the fuel pumps but still it don't mark my gas anybody had this problem before help please

Steering faulty fix
The steering faulty message is incorrect, it should say "Your car is now a paperweight"... Can't do anything with it and the only official repair from the dealers is to replace the steering column. I was lucky, found an almost local specialist who corrected the fault for $399 and I didn't even have to remove the steering wheel. Speedometer Solutions is the place to contact, Tom is the owner and knows all about this fault, and can help you get the paperweight turned into a motor vehicle again.
