Default 957 S / GTS / Turbo / Turbo S Potential Common Issues

Now that the 957 has been around for 40-60k on average, I assume people are starting to see big things show up out of warranty.

I would like to start a little thread here to start tracking them more and approx book cost

The 3 things I have seen so far here and other boards with 2 of them on mine are as follows:

1. Water Distributor Failure, short tube pulls out of the cast water-distributer failure and most likely requires an engine drop, but patience and perseverance has shown otherwise. $3500

https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...50k-miles.html

2. Oil leak at Vacuum pump, near front of drivers side of engine, big round black cap. $800

3. Oil leak at timing chain cover, Engine dropped, Cylinder head covers removed, transmission unflanged and flanged, remove oil pan, remove other bits to get the cover off from front of the engine and bolt it all back together. $5500

4. Plastic coupler from the water pump to thermostat housing leaks

I have 2009 gts.
I am about to hit 60,000 miles, after some research, it seems the GTS has a timing chain instead of timing belt, that means no replacement needed. Is that right? Can anyone confirm that?

The 955/957 have timing chains. Not sure of its service life.

'08 957S, 55K, immaculate condition except steering column wouldn't unlock.

Replaced column at cost of $3K. Worked for a month.

Was quoted $7K to replace "all the electronics" related to immobilizer. PCNA was involved. I got a $500 gift certificate as a "sorry old chap" consolation prize.

I gave the car away.

Anyone know the lifespan of the timing chains on the V8?
I just had a 09 GTS inspected and was told there appeared to be wear on the chains, it was noted "the edge of the links was polished down and worn, had a sharp edge" in the inspection

You can see this getting out of control already.......

Common issues and individual problems are not the same thing.

This is the first case I've seen of this.

Realizing this is a 2014 thread but the vacuum pump is not located here. #2 is mounted to the head (passenger side rear) opposite to the HPFP.

I believe this is referring to the air/oil separator. The cap/seal is available from aftermarket sources, about $30.

BTW there have been few (if any) reports of Cayenne V8 timing chain wear or failures.
