Hi guys,

This is my first post on here and a cry for help unfortunately. Two things have happened to my Turbo in pretty much immediate succession, coincidence or not? My coolant pipes went whilst doing 60mph last week, crawled it 30 seconds to the closest petrol station, it didn't overheat on the temp gauge luckily. It got collected on a low loader the following morning and on start up sounded perfectly fine and taken to my trusty local independent Porsche specialist. Upon starting at the garage a horrendous noise came from the timing chain area which went away after a few seconds.
Im wondering if any of you can please give me a hand with your suggestions. Sounds like it could be pricey to me!!

What year is the cayenne? Is the noise only at start up for 1-2 seconds intermittently? If so the starter is located under the coolant pipes that you had replaced. The starter does not like the coolant bath it gets and will eventually start to fail. And when they do they make a horrendous screeching/groan noise at start up for a few seconds. In all my years with Porsche I can't recall ever seeing an early cayenne have timing chain issues, unless the car was severely neglected. But in your case, being a turbo, the turbo chargers are the first to go if you neglect service.

When I bought my 957TT it needed a new chain, was very expensive at ~£6000 for labour alone (apparently) so I would explore all other avenues first!
Luckily mine was covered under pre-purchase warranty, hope yours is a relatively cheap fix..
