957 3.6 V6 Common problems?
Cannot find much info on this engine. Just bought an 08 with 81k miles.. just wondering if there is anything to worry about with this particular engine?

Don't see much complaint about them here, but gut feel says the V6 owners have lower numbers than the V8 variants.
You might also check the Audi and VW boards as it's the shared VR6 motor. I Know Porsche worked it over, but I don't know to what extent.

Cayenne issues?
Hi, I saw your post. I'm also interested in purchasing an 08 Cayenne V6. How has your car held up? Any major issues? Thanks in advance!

I've had my V6 for almost a year now, no issues with the engine at all apart from it needing new ignition coils which seems common for the 955/957 regardless of engine. It has enough power and sounds pretty sweet too. It seems the VR6 has been around for a while so VW have ironed out most, if not all of the issues with them

I've had my 2008 V6 for almost 3 years now. 1 bad coil and steady oil changes every 6 months or 5000 miles, whichever comes first. Usually the 6 months. Getting the blower motor and resistor replaced today, but that's kind of common on these, nothing major. Other than the coil and the blower motor, just gas and go.

The blower motor sits under the glove box (more or less) and “blows” the air through the HVAC system. Every so often the bearings or blades go on it and it makes an annoying squeal when operating. I’m not much of a mechanic on this vehicle yet so I haven’t done the oil changes yet. Always bring it in to my indy. Twice a year oil changes are $300/year. I can live with that. The coils and blower motor were covered under extended warranty so aside from air filter changes and cleaning out the drains in the wheel wells, I haven’t done the maintenance on my Cayenne myself. But it’s been pretty trouble free. Of course you’ve gotta show a little appreciation too! After every road trip, when we’re home safe and she’s parked in the garage, I give her a little pat on the hood and thank her for getting us home safely. Keeps her happy knowing she’s appreciated.

I have 57k on my 957 base... recently I notice some white smoke from the two tailpipes at stop, no smell though. What would that be? How much is your coolant consumption over mileage? Mine consumes about 50mL over 1500 miles.

I can usually tell when the coil goes bad by the sudden shudder the motor gives off, like it wants to shut down. Then the CEL immediately pops up. It will idle a little rough. When I'm driving it, it isn't too noticeable. Mine have always gone bad while the truck is idling after startup. It's never happened while driving.

That engine is pretty solid mechanically. Lately we have started seeing oil separator failures on higher mileage cars. On this engine it is built into the valve cover, its not terribly expensive but it is not very fun to replace. Symptoms will be check engine light and or rough running/whistling noise from the intake area. They dont seem to smoke heavily like the 9x6/9x7. Other than that coils can be an issue, seen a few leaky water pumps but that's about all i can think of thats specific to the V6 engine.
