How often do you change your oil? More offten in the artic?

Hello i have a 2004 cayenne s v8 with 159km . Temp can get down to -40 degrees Celsius here . Therefor i am using 0 W40 mobil one how often would you guys change your oil?

Not sure about MY04, current V8 Cayennes worldwide use A40 spec 0W40 for all temperatures. The Turbo S can use 5W50, but Porsche says only down to -25C. C30 spec 5W30 is used in the V6, both gasoline and diesel. If your usual trips are not long enough for the oil to sustain operating temps for a reasonable period, 10,000 km is probably reasonable. Otherwise the factory interval should be acceptable (12k turbo/24k non-turbo).

Pour point on 0w40 is -46 I believe
Do you get your car warmed up fully on every Trip?

If not I would recommend long trips every week...
Otherwise you might have issues with fuel dilution and condensation in oil.

I would cut changes to 6-8k km

I have hard times reaching 100C on my oil on my 14k km sometimes in Ontario...

I would just shorten the OCI's a little.

I wonder if CAT or any company around there would take your oil for analysis ... This is cheap and it would give you piece of mind ..

Not everyone has to agree with me, but I change my engine oil once in every 2 yrs, due to the fact that I don't even put 4k miles in 2 yrs of period and 0W-40 is full synthetic engine oil where the oxidation is much slower than the typical non-synthetic engine oil.
I haven't done oil analysis but the color or engine oil isn't dark dark based on my observation.

Artic weather,,, I can't answer that, I'm from Pacific NW, the weather doesn't get too cold nor hot.

Just so we're on the same page, my normal oil operating temperature is ~110C (+/-5C depending upon load). If you're seeing less, the ambient temp may be affecting your oil cooler. Do folks up there still partially block radiators to keep the coolant up to temp? If you're not regularly seeing 110C oil temps, you might experiment with partially blocking the oil cooler.

sure, oil analysis is need but generally you have oxidation and condensation issue w/ the car just sitting.
