DIY Interior LED Light Package

DIY Interior LED Light Package
I have a 2012 Cayenne S. I have been thinking about installing the Porsche LED lighting package being sold by Suncoast. Has anyone done this? My questions are how to remove the light covers on the doors and tailgate, and how to remove the overhead console to get to those lights. I looked at the vanity mirror lights and can't see any way to get at those so I will probably skip that and have the dealer do it.
The puddle lights look like you could get to them by removing the side view mirror glass, but I am not sure about this one either.

Well, I bought the bulbs from a place called Xtralights for $60, which makes more sense I guess than paying Porsche $450 for the same bulbs.
I did the forum search and I cannot find anything on how to install these bulbs in the front dome light. If anybody has some advice on how to take this thing apart I would appreciate it.

The Porsche Extended LED PKG does not include the front overhead light. The pkg includes 18 bulbs: 4 footwells, 4 door edge, 2 trunk edge, 2 side mirror puddle, 4 sun visor mirror, 1 glove compartment, 1 trunk ceiling.
The door edge and trunk edge are the easiest to do, just wrap a piece of cloth over a flat tip screw driver and pry into the small slot. The trunk ceiling and the glove compartment are also easy to do. Personally, I like the sun visor mirror to remain in incandescent as yellow lights look better on the face. The front footwells can also be done the same way. I have not done the rear footwells because they seem to be different from the front ones and I was not able to remove the light housing. I also have not figured out how to do the side mirror puddles, perhaps someone can offer help.

You can download the Installation Guide from bottom of the Suncoast order page.

Well I do not recommend Xtralights. I orderd a complete interior LED package and got 3 bulbs, two of which don't seem to fit anywhere on my vehicle. Their customer service just keeps giving me a runaround.
Does anyone have a recommendation of a good place to buy these bulbs?

You do not need to buy a whole pkg. the LED bulbs are almost universal, same ones for the footwell, door edge, glove box, and a different one for the trunk ceiling. They are available from most auto gadget stores. If you are changing the license plate bulbs, make sure you get the ones with resistors, otherwise you will get an error message.

i got tired of fooling with the aftermarket stuff so I bought the Porsche LED package. I got everything installed except the puddle lights. I just could not get the latch on the inside back of the top mirror section to disconnect and I did not want to break it. Everything was pretty easy and straightforward except the vanity mirror lights (that are a pain to get out without breaking but I managed to do it).

The rear footwells were a challenge. I set the front seats forward with a full forward tilt, this seemed to give me the most work space. There is a small slot opposit of the light bulb, it is hard to find because it is covered up by that piece of black trim. You need to slide a small flat head screwdriver or something similar into the slot and push a plastic retaining clip (it is made from the same material as the lense cover so it would be easy to break with too much force) toward the light to release the housing for the light. There is almost no excess wire so I could not unplug the light housing, I used a fine screwdriver to take the metal backing off and replace the bulb with the housing still connected.

The mirror covers open toward the middle of the car. Open it up. I used a very flat screwdriver blade to pry into the middle of the plastic with the mirror attached to it.
There are two plastic tabs on the plastic that the mirror is attached to, they are very stiff and could easily break so be patient.
Push the plastic toward the center of the car until the tabs are out, then the piece with the mirror attached will come out.
Take the old bulbs out and put the new LEDS in with the light facing outboard from the center of the mirror.
It (eventually) goes back in the same way it came out. If it seems like the lights don't work once you put them in they are on a timer; close the door and start the car to see if they work before you put the mirror back on.
Enjoy!
