Hyundai Santa Fe, Cayenne looks for 65k less
I suspect most Cayenne's will be mistaken for this. Regardless of your opinion on Porsches choice to make the Ceyenne, spending 80K and looking like this is a problem. Sorry I could not find a rear shot, the rear looks even more similar.

Oh good grief Fletch. No one is ever, EVER, going to mistake the Cayenne for that anymore than they mistake your 994T for an 88 Mazda RX7. Stop it already.

Kaz don't be so sure, The Cayenne is entering the segment of the marked where that is EXACTLY what happens. SUV's buyers will not be walking into Porsche dealerships, Porsche enthusiasts will. It’s best you come to terms with that now. The Cayenne will be compared to other SUV’s in the segment, and my comparison is spot on. My wife even mentioned the similar lines.

Thanks Fletch. What I have come to terms with, and I think you should too, is that I'm not in the market for an SUV. Not only that, I'm not in the market for an $80k SUV and neither are you. Nor is your wife. Porsche did not aim this SUV/Hybrid thing at you or your wife. You are whistling (bitching) into the wind.
Porsche enthusiasts that have money to play with will be walking into the dealerships looking for something to drive when their 996TT just won't do to get the entire family around. They will have looked at the X5 and the Merc and for whatever reason decide that they want to be different and give the Porsche item a chance. They will do something that you cannot and will not, and that is write a check and actually experience the Porsche Cayenne instead of emit one constant moan from very far off on the sidelines.
BWWWAaaahahahahahahah!

Kaz you sound angry, Not needed, you seem to have restated my point well. Porsche people will buy these not SUV people, however SUV people will be seeing them, and comparing them to other SUV's.
Finding clever ways to claiming your wallet is fat enough to afford one is interesting, but lacks an audience. The attempt to assume my economic status ignorant.

Among financial status insecurities you seem to have a reading comprehension problem too, so let me break it down for you. First, notice the use of sarcasm throughout post, not anger. My statement indicating that I was not and am not in the market for an $80k SUV was actually me saying, "I cannot afford an $80k SUV right now so I'm not going to bitch about the Cayenne." As for the attempt to assume your economic status?? Uhhh, no. It was simply my opinion that you are not in the market for an $80K SUV, not because of anything other than.....well, YOU are not in the market for an $80K SUV. There won't be one sitting in your driveway this June, anymore than there'll be one sitting in your driveway this fall...because, well..YOU are not in the market for an $80K SUV.
Jeez, when you have to explain eeeevery liiitle thing.............
P.S. Question. When you're daddy told you to stand closer to the urinal...did you assume that was his clever way of telling you your d*** might be too small? If so, how much therapy did that take to get over? Maybe he was just telling you to stand closer to the urinal so you wouldn't drip on your shoes. <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

guys, is this a SF / LA thing?
back on topic (a little): styling of SUVs or other pure utility devices (as compared to "sporting") is secondary to achieving optimal function. The rule "form follows function" yields some variant of the 2 box solution in all SUVs. Some are more Combat, some are more Aero, some have lotsa add-on junk, some are bare. But all seem to lie somewhere between the box & the egg.
I have noted some advance opinion that the interior of the Cayenne is really distinctive, a real differentiator from other SUVs. While in "personal vehicles" the exterior appearance is a critical component of buyer selection, I think it is less so w/ SUVs, even to the extent of there being a counter-trend toward industro-styling (exposed rivets, lightening holes). However, the interior, which is where owners spends most of their time (ok, excepting concours extremists), is MORE critcal to a SUV buyer, as a basis for decision making & owner satisfaction, since it (along w/ drivetrain performance) is the central component of the experience of the machine. Winning "inside" may be part of Cayenne's edge.
One other point on the "SUV Market"; in the US it is very large (% of all vehicles sold), entrenched (everyone is in it), and longstanding (Jeep Wagoneer of the early 50's). The sector is becoming highly segmented, excepting the economic condtions, there is obviously a large enough buyer base for a "Cayenne-like devise". The issue that seems to raise everyone's ire on the List is a) does it signal a change-for-the-worse at PAG? and b) do I like it? Those are questions that won't be settled by it's success or failure on the sales floor.
just a thought...

I agree kevin, My original point was Porsche buyers are not traditional SUV buyers, and regardless of ones opinion on the Cayenne It will be compared to others in the segment, making it difficult to apeal outside traditional Porsche markets.

Sorry about that Kevin, no it wasn't an SF/LA thing. It was a hysterical person needing a b*** slap thing.
Anyhow, when BMW came out with their SUV one could have said at the time that a BMW buyer was not a traditional SUV buyer either. Yet look at those X5's fly off the lot. Will anyone really compare that Hyundai to the Cayenne? After seeing a Hyundai on a raised platform at a local lot and only SEEING PICTURES of them here online, I just seriously doubt it. Good grief a Mitsubishi Diamante looks like an S500 Benz if you squint long enough. A Honda Civic looks like BMW 3 series if you squint and glance.
Fletch, I know a Lastek surgeon...........
