Looks like a Hyundai? Kaz is right, squint hard enough and it does. By the way, my Jeep XJ looks just like a Boxster if you squint. Seriously.

looks like a Hyundai?

Yeah yeah Fletch, don't get upset with me just because your arguements have no merit.

Did BMW perceive themselves to have a problem when their Z3 looked like a Miata? Uh...no.

Does MB figure itself to have a problem that you have to look twice at the front of an SL500 to see that it's not a lowly SLK?

The GS400 looks like one of those Hyundai's but it isn't stopping the sales of either.

(this next one is a stretch)
Porsche had a tiny problem with the front of the Boxsters and 996's looking alike so they changed it...a bit. Didn't keep too many people from buying 996's. No one seems to care much that a trip to the tuner can have your Boxster S outperforming a stock 996. Annnyywaayyy.

All the private design houses are gone. Just about everyone is getting their designs from the same 4 places and changing them to suit.

Fletch Don't use the excuse of a party to meet up with me fruitcake. Looks like I have audience enough in you.

Kaz, Yes, you have an audience of at least 1. I like to see wind bags like yourself get worked up, gives me a reason to come back to this thread.

I think we have graduated to what cars have made it that some said would not?

I agree the Z3 beat the Miata stigma, and the 996 beat the Boxster stigma, but has since been corrected. I even put the popularity of mini vans and odd looking SUV/Truck converting things into this group. All of your examples are excellent cars.

How about these for failures that actually happened.

Pontiac Aztec, Pontiac fiero, Any Cadillac, Oldsmobile the entire company, Mercedes A class (however this one has gotten much better). Failure can and does happen, it is yet to be determined which group the Cayenne will fall into.

I gotta pass on your little party invite, not sure what you had in mind, but I imagine you get a taker ever once in a while.

What exactly are you trying to say Fletch?

What car does the Pontiac Aztec look like? It's ugly but what does it look like? What premium car manufacturer is coming out with something similar???? Failure can and does happen but you specifically started this thread with the picture of a Hyundai and claims that SUV buyers would mistake a Cayenne for it.

Did anyone mistake the Pontiac Fiero for a 308/328 Ferrari? Did Toyota MR2 sales suffer because of the same comparison? The Fiero was just a plain crappy car. Moreover, the 308/328's were out well before Pontiac built a Fiero.

You are comparing a vehicle that Porsche is about to put out to one that a lesser company, Hyundai already does. Now you turn around and name three failures all of which are cheap vehicles to begin with. So your point is what exactly? You can go drive a Hyundai SUV but neither of us have even seen on in the flesh much less driven. Man, get a grip.

As for being worked up, not even close. It's a matter of fact attitude. Everything I said to you, insults included I'll say to you in person. You prefer to do so from the safety of your computer. If you don't like the threat then don't throw the insults if you're unwilling to back em up in person. What are you...like 5 hours north? I like roadtrips. You predictable putz.

Kaz,

Point is, I think it looks like a Hyundai, which will not help image. I also think it could fail just like all the crappy cars I mention. It could also be as popular as the cars you stated. Since we are not sure lets wait and see.

That’s it for me Kaz, I'll leave it at that.

putz out.

However, there are too many examples of similar looking cars that are miles apart in price and build quality where the more upscale of the two has not suffered.

A Hyundai owner may console and fool himself into thinking that his SUV looks like a Porsche Cayenne (somehow) but a Cayenne owner will simply be convinced he or she's got something more rare and exclusive than an X5 or MB SUV.

BPG39, wasn't Dr. Porsche's first breakthrough design a 4WD having individual electric motors at each wheel (circa '99 - 1899)?

Yeah Kevin but that car was a complete failure! The development of that car came at great costs to horse and carriage racing development. That's why you don't see Porsche anymore at Pimilico or the Kentucky Derby. What a mistake that was.

Hi

I haven't been able to get through to the server for the last few days - it's the kaz and fletch show shutting me out.

I just wanted to ask a question: what the f**k is a Miata? I live in London so I guess that's why I don't know.

I personally don't like the Cayenne, period. That doesn't have anything to do with whether I am in the market for one or not - I just wouldn't buy one anyway....but that's just my opinion.

Fletch I wouldn't panic about the Cayenne looking like a Hyundai - unless either a) you are the Marketing Director on the Cayenne project or b) have invested all your cash in the Cayenne somehow. So what if it flops? Won't be the first vehicle to do so....chill out.

And Kaz just needs to spend less time on 'how to argue a point endlessly and pointlessly for a long time in order to score hollow points against people he doesn't even know' courses.

'So you are doing exactly what Christer?'

What does this mean?

I will try to answer your questions as clearly as possible.

I think the problem with my connection was that well-known internet phenomenon called the 'drivel effect'.
