So do I, and if you look at my posts on this board you will find that I have said the same things.

The idiots on this board that think the Cayenne is good for Porsche are honest to god, stupid fools.

Seriously Kevin.

Roschpe weren't you lecturing me not too long ago on personal attacks, name calling and the validity of arguements? Yes of course, that was you.

Someone slap this guy, bring him out of his hysteria.

Kevin did you read the article?

We don't clandestinely meet and make up these paradigms ourselves.

If you have had any post-secondary education in marketing or advertising you would realize what we already know about the Cayenne and its role in brand Marketing.

Thumbs up

I haven't been a real follower of the run up to this SUV but I can't imagine Porsche's reasons for building SUV's are any different than any other car company's. The essential truth is that the profitability per square foot of manufacturing facility is much greater building SUV's compared to sports cars. i.e. they want the revenue - and if they use it to build better sports cars then I'm cool with it.

Of course I read it - I could have WRITTEN it! So what? Brian points out the facts, there is money in "them thar hills". The Porsche of the future will be different than the Porsche of the past. Sorry to have to break the news to you. Maybe someday we might compare grades & incomes - when you catch up (but I doubt it).

Some observations:

1. My customers that complain about the Cayenne and how it's tarnishing the Porsche bloodline are the same guys that were complaining back in 1996 about the 996 tarnishing the Porsche bloodline. Back then, they were swearing up and down that the watercooled engine, the non-flared body, etc were an abomination and that Porsche might as well give up. These same guys are now driving the 996 because it is easily a better vehicle than the previous 993. I'll bet that within 2 years, these same guys are trading their MLs and their X5s on the Cayenne. And, they'll be complaining that they have to wait on a list for it.

When I worked for BMW, many complained about the BMW X5, saying that BMW should focus on building luxury performance sedans. The X5 is arguably the best SUV on the market today. It does everything well. And all those fools who complained now own one. Just like these anti-Cayenne people will.

2. People that complain about things tend to hang around in the places they'll hear about it the most. For example, I frequent a Jeep board, and all the guys who hated the KJ would hang around in the KJ Forum. And here, people that hate the Cayenne hang around in the Cayenne forum. The one place they're most likely to hear praise for it. Why do you guys hang out here? Ignore the forum, ignore the Cayenne, and you'll never have to worry about it.

3. 4.5L V8, 340hp, 360lb/ft of torque, 7700lb towing capacity, locking diffs front and rear. This sounds like a "real" truck to me. With the added bonus of it being able to perform on a track too.

4. I'm looking forward to it. And when we get our demonstrator, I'll be looking forward to taking it camping and offroading.

5. Although I doubt it would be able to keep up to my Jeep XJ.

Not flaming anyone here, just some observations. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Can't wait to drive circles around the low end model which will cost much more then our allroad and haul much less...

I still say for all of Porsches SUV history preachings (you'd think they invented the SUV from the way they are positioning this launch)they could have done a lot more by building a killer estate (off of an Audi platform) and made a real attempt to get back into GT racing...

Say what you want, but I think Porsche has a lot of brand risk building this rig, and their timing couldn't be worse...and if there are any major 1st year build quality issues - look out.

Perhaps Dr. Pieche will bring Porsche back into the family as a retirement present to himself.

Without trying to defend all of the people against the Cayenne I thought I would attempt to put this venture into my perspective..at least from my point of view.

1. First and foremost Porsche must remain independent. Can you imagine the uproar if they WERE bought out.

2. Unlike their competition Fiat/Ferrari; Ford/Jaguar; Audi/take your pick; Mercedes, Porsche is a very small company that MUST make a profit on literally every vehicle they manufacture.

3. Porsche needs a broader product line. They cannot continue just selling 911/Boxsters

So the question is not to produce or not, but what to produce. SUV's are the most profitable passenger vehicles and whatever vehicle Porsche chose to broaden their product line had to be profitable. Follow the money.

4. Porsche needs a larger income stream to fund the racing programs they will get back into.

5. This 4 passenger platform will grow into a station wagon, sedan, GT, or whatever.

I admire what Porsche is trying what to do..Their sustained fierce independence coupled with their racing heritage is what is in Porsche's crosshairs, and I agree with them in that regard.

Dear Roschpe,
I wish you would show some guts, some internal fortitude and come out and identify yourself. You hide behind a keyboard and a computer screen. You throw out insults at people with impunity. We cannot see where you are from, we cannot email you, we do not know your name. I wonder what you are hiding? Who are you really?

ahh well!,
if you don't like it, sell it and move on to another brand.

...I am still waiting to count the MASS desertion!!!

I do however admire so called ‘marketing experts’ who are able to predict the success or failure of a product that is yet to be launched – The Porsche Cayenne.

I do recall the same ‘marketing experts’ spelling the end of Porsche as an independent sports car manufacturer at the launch of the Boxster – claiming the 911 is all Porsche needs to survive for the next 50 years.

Unfortunately, some of us get swept off our feet with ‘cheap marketing slogans’ like ‘BIG BHP’, 0-62mph in 1sec FLAT, 500mph etc etc etc.

6 years after the unveiling of the Boxster, there are still waiting lists for new Boxsters, hmmm – ‘marketing experts’, eh?

SUV makes sense – every home has a family car(MPV, 4x4 or estate) and a sports car for daddy. My house does and I can’t wipe this smile off my face, damn life is too good with my ‘underpowered’ 996 C2 Cab!!!

just a thought.....zzzzz.....zzzzz.....zzzzz

Adrian,
probably he is a Porsche AG employee. His sole role in life is to promote negative images of the brand just to judge public & enthusiast reactions.

He is doing his job very well, give him credit everyone!

Maybe PCNA or PCGB but not PAG. He does not write as a native German speaker would. Personally I think he works for Chrysler,

So, ic we are back to our old tricks again and again. Love or leave it. Oh come on guys, he is just saying that he isnt happy with the way porsche is going about their business and I also agree to a some extent. Also, selling SUV isnt a boxster is it?. So, what was that slogen. "There is no Subsitute!" Hummm let me see Cayenne vs ML55 vs X5 4.6 vs Range Rover. So, i guess there are lots of subsitutes and who cares if it is the fastest or the best handling SUV. Still a SUV, no matter how it performs. I am not buying a 75-100k SUV so I can race around town that is why we all have 911's. And, havent you found yourselves making fun of that guy driving that ML55(no offense to any ML owners.)

I just hope they dont go bust and we all be driving a VW(600hps GTI coming near you).

Btw, who has put in an order for one. Just curious! Please raise their hand and show your real manhood. I think I will pass on this order.
Going to save my money and get a C4S.
