Trying to figure out what's hanging under rear bumper. Is it the spare, or the gas tank. Also, how does the rear open?

We do have advance orders and having seen the Cayenne I am sold on it's being a real Porsche.
There are some very neat options available such as automatic ride height adjuatmant, a hiden reat tow package, 20" Wheels, and the list goes on and on.
The rear opens with the glass lifting up and the lower part dropping down.
None of the pictures do the Cayenne justice. It is a Great looking vehicle.

I'm assuming no one got any photos at the Feb. 6 dealer/show/whatever? This is starting to get annoying, all of the hoopla and conjecture, and no photos.
It looks like a skid-plate on the exhaust system. Maybe big skid-plate=big mufflers=big engine?
I hope that the thing sells, for porsche's sake, but I hope that it provides marginally profitable, so that it's not a loss, but still forces them to realize that their bread 'n butter lies with sports cars and RACING, not with SUVs.

Hi Bill,I too am very excited re the Cayenne.
I would want to use it off road. Serious Rock crawling.
We need smaller wheels and bigger tyres. Ideally 35x12.5x15 super swampers. I doubt we will be able to go that far. Do you think it would take 16 in. wheels? How about33 in. tyres?
Will it be hard to mount a winch up front?
Does it use sway bars,or does the active suspension take care of body roll?
Do you have any idea of the ground clearance when set on high?
I have a BTurbo on order.

Just reading more on the x5 4.6is in R&T. As a future cayenne owner (at least at this point) this is the only SAV/SUV/whatever that looks like it can touch the cayenne. IMO, the ML 55 doesn't even stack up to the x5 4.4.
x5 3.0 vs. cayenne v6
x5 4.4 vs. cayenne v8
x5 4.6is vs.cayenne v8 and even v8TT which should have no competition.
In all cases the cayenne should be more than competitive on all levels. Let's hope price is one of them.

OK, this is just a little bit too much, even for me. A Porsche configured for tailgate parties. Or will there be an optional engine mount fixture for rebuilding aircooled 4s & 6s in the pits?

Bill,
Can you tell me if the Cayenne will have a gvwr (max weight of vehicle fully loaded)over 6000 lbs. to qualify as a "truck" by the IRS and thereby be depreciated faster. The X-5 comes in at 6005 lbs. so I have to think BMW knew of this tax advantage. I'm wondering if the Porsche will qualify also.
Thanks, Mike
