Default Cayenne: RWD -2WD Conversion/Front Transaxel Disconnect

Hello:

I wanted to know if it is possible to decouple the front driveshaft. I never offroad and would prefer to keep the car in 2WD mode.

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks

You might not like it without an LSD.

I disconnected my C4S's front diff (removed the driveshaft) and it was "ok." The lack of LSD didn't make it "more fun."

You mean if I disconnect the front diff, the rear LSD will not activate??

What exactly did you remove, just the shaft that connect the transfer case to the front diff?

Thanks

For the 996, just the shaft.

I see - no one here knows on the Cayenne?

I still do not understand why you say the LSD is impaired without the front diff.

Hi CayenneS2006, di you ever get this figured out, I have a 2004 S and I disconnected the front diff, but the car doesnt drive right, when cornering it feels like the trans is slipping. I'm guessing that the trans module needs to be bypassed.......

Its not going to work. Not now, not ever. The system is full time AWD. Without going into a lengthy hypothetical explanation, the transfer case has a clutch controlled by a stepper motor which first controls lockup to the front versus rear and then into 4 low range and then finally locking the clutch pack so that power distribution is 50/50. This is why you must first enter 4low before you can lock the center diff.
