Blower motor replacement thread

My fan squeaks only at low blower speeds sometimes. It will usually start after hitting a bump (kinda funny). So I ordered a blower motor about 2 years ago. Still haven't put it in because the squeaking is so sporadic and hasn't compelled me past my laziness quotient.

Ordering the parts tomorrow and will probably get a new regulator also. From the pics I've seen it doesn't appear to be a clean shot of anything to lubricate ? Once out does it come apart for lubrication am I wasting my time. Need heat, it's cold here in Boston so if it's worth trying to lube it I will. Is the VW Toureg unit the same? ECS has non OEM units for both vehicles with the same part numbers? Thanks in advance for your wisdom.
I have had no problems with the $85 Chinese fan I put in. I didn't do the regulator. I've got some Touareg parts in my P!g and they work great.

SUPER EASY-BUY THE CHINESE MOTOR
Super easy and way more affordable than I thought. Bought TYC 700262 from Amazon for $73.25 delivered. Seven 7/32 screws hold the motor. Took all of 10 minutes. Use an extension.

So my new to me cayenne (2nd one) is doing the same deal with the fan at 60k, cheapest place to get one?
I see no names for $60, but that seems too cheap. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AC-Heate...3D281369885156
Would like a name brand.

Thanks, the TYB is on amazon I think for like $70 but generally has bad reviews in regards to strength and fitment.
I was thinking the same, around $100 to $150 sounds like a good bet. Off to research some more.

I tired one of the cheap $60 fans off eBay. The construction was fine, some of the soldering around the wiring looked questionable. On install, I found the fan was off balance and returned it.
Cleaned and greased the original. Hoping it'll last a little while longer.

Just replaced my blower and the regulator.. No luck.. it still does not work (blower does not turn on). I checked the old regulator, it is working. I ended up by passing the Regulator all together. Cut the red wire from it and ran the red wire directly from the blower to a keyed hot in the fuse box. The wire got real hot, so I ended up getting a thicker gauge wire.. now it works as it should and does not get hot. I will eventually troubleshoot this further, but for now at least I have AC and it operates just as it should (so far. controls work with it.. high/low fan)...
Anyone have ideas on what the problem would be if my blower and regulator are good (which they are, I have tested) ? what else in this vehicle operates the power to the blower motor? I checked all fuses, none found blown.

Bearings go dry then the motor overheats. If you took it out once in a while and could lubricate the bearings - they'd last forever. Slick-50, which was snake oil IMHO - made a spray lubricant that was amazingly good for this sort of thing. The cheapo Chinese made desk fans that we had at work were famous for never lasting more than a year when they started slowing down due to lack of lubrication. A few drops of the Slick-50 spray lubricant - and many of those fans ran - and are still running 24 hours a day 10 years later. I've been meaning to try to find some of that lube and take out the Cayenne fan and see what I can do with it. Mine is getting close to failing ('11 CTT with 85k miles) since I see codes stored about the motor going over-current on startup. Gotta do this real soon now..

So what should I be considering for replacement if the blower motor has made noise 2 times (stopped for me when I deselected Auto mode for fan speed and set the fan to the slowest speed. Once it slowed down, the noise stopped and the fan would run normally at any speed. Threw bad brake light code and some other codes as soon as the blower motor made noise and those stopped as soon as the blower motor started running fine. Happened to my wife who didn't know what to do so just let it run. After 5 minutes, it stopped, but she also got 3 or 4 codes (same sorts of codes that appear when the battery is low) and the codes stopped for her also as soon as the motor stopped making noise.
Is the motor the only problem? Regulator? (is that an electronic module?) This is an 08 S in case it makes a difference. There are AC outlets for the back seat, but no separate thermostat for the back seats.

I don't remember any threads about the blower regulator, it seems to always be the motor.
Go buy a fan, put it in, and call it a day. It's about as hard as changing a tire; a one-hour fix, at worst.
