Default P2403 Cel

Hello all,

I have had my Cayenne Turbo for a little over a week now. Fortunately I still have a warranty through the dealer. Anyhow the Cayenne had a code P2403 EVAP LEAK before I first picked it up, The gas cap seemed loose, we cleared the code, tightened the cap and off we went. The truck seemed fine, but then the light came on again a few days later...I went ahead and ordered a new Porsche OEM cap, thinking that should fix it and save me some hassle...put on new cap cleared the code and drove off...next day same light...now it is going back to the dealer this friday (Purchased used at a BMW dealer). To have them take a look.

from what i have researched it could be as simple as a leaky line, to possibly a replacement of the leak detection pump..anyone else going through this?

P.S. it seems to start a little sluggish but perks right up after about 5 minutes of driving..

Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump

Diagnostic conditions
• Battery positive voltage between 10 V and 16 V
• Engine must cool down by at least 42 K in the time that elapses
between stopping and restarting engine
• Intake air temperature between 5 °C and 95 °C
• Variations of intake air temperature less than 12 K
• Vehicle is travelling with longer partial load share (3 - 150 km/h)
• Engine temperature higher than 5 °C
• Diagnosis only runs below 2,400 m above sea level
• No P0441, P0444, P0445 (Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted) or P0446, P0447, P0448 (Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Shorted) faults in memory
• No P0455 (Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (largeleak)) in memory
• No P2400, P2401, P2402 (Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit High) fault in memory

Possible cause of fault
♦ EVAP canister purge valve stuck in closed position
♦ Purge air line between EVAP canister purge valve and active charcoal filter blocked
♦ Open circuit in signal line
♦ Short circuit to ground in signal line
♦ Leakage diagnosis pump faulty (diaphragm or reed switch stuck, solenoid valve stays open)
♦ DME control module faulty

Do not attempt a diagnosis near a high cliff.

I will print this out and give it to the shop when I drop it off at the end of the week. This forum is great!

The most common causes are the purge valve sticking open, or a failed leak detection pump. I did have one that was caused by failed fuel tank rollover valves, which requires fuel tank replacement. Porsche informed me that this was common on the very early Cayennes.

It's still working itself out unfortunately. They did a fog test and found no hose leaks...Next step is ordering a new leak detection pump, thats what they believe it to be. I'll find out more details Friday. My salesman was on vacation and I only want to deal directly with him (old family friend).

FYI I did contact Pelican Parts on the Leak Detection Pump, they informed me that Porsche North America only shows 3 available in the U.S. and 0 in Germany. They were really helpful and I hope the dealership orderes from them.

I ordered the leak detection pump from parts.com. had it delivered fairly quickly. unfortunately, the CEL came back rather quickly as well. guess I'll take a look at the purge valve next.

That's a bummer regarding the leak detection pump replacement not fixing the issue. Also thanks for the Info Xr4tim, I hope I dont need a full tank replacement .

Well I guess they have got all the paperwork together and the "proper approval signatures" from the service manager today. I have to wait until Monday to know exactly what they plan to do to remedy the issue.

The BMW dealer has opted to send the truck over to the nearest Porsche dealership 1.5 hours away for the fix. They didn't want to touch it, can't blame them and I'm happy it's going to Porsche.

Just picked up the truck. Salesman said it was some sort of pump costing around 500. I told him I needed the specifics. He will email me the service info tomorrow.
