I've gone to VW dealers to see about getting some small parts that I know are shared between the vehicles.. and every time the VW dealer is more expensive then the Porsche dealer. (Floor-mat clips, coolant cap, some other small stuff..)

One thing I can save on is the touchup paint. Found that the Titanium edition color Iceland Silver Metallic is actually a VW color used on about 4 different models (and they call it a silver-blue, which is what it actually is..) Lots cheaper to buy the VW touchup paint then the Porsche stuff. (The color codes are identical except VW adds an "L" in front of the color code to indicate lacquer..)

Hi everyone,

Over 27 years I've run a few 924s, a brilliant 911 (SC) and currently have a 955 Cayenne (kids, dogs, boats...)

Anyway, I can confirm that many parts are interchangable with the Touareg and Audi Q7.
Some perhaps less obvious:

- The two fuel pumps immersed in the tank (replacement $750 by Porsche). New Touareg pumps (same part number) $35 each, built in myself.
- Wheels+tyres (bought winter (M+S) tyres on Q7 rims so I don't need to go to tyre centre twice a year.

In adddition, I've sen on here where others have mentioned drivetrain and other bits and pieces.
I guess it would be interesting to compile a list of all the bits and pieces, particularly for us DIY guys.
As the Cayennes get older, the economics could become very interesting if parts can be salvaged from scrapped Touaregs..

We'l see.

Great idea!

I’ll start with ones I have personally changed.
Parking sensor. Light sensor. HeadLight switch. B pillar trim (external). Windscreen washer pump. Cabin HVAC fan.
All have vw part number on the item and are identical to that fitted to a touareg. (And quite a few other vw stable vehicles ).

Brake booster pump is common across many VWs and Audis.
Diverter valves are the same ones used on many VW and Audi turbos.

Both parts can be found for a small fraction of what Porsche charges. I want to kick the people that created Porsche parts pricing in the nuts. Does the relabeling of VAG parts and charging many multiples of the price by Porsche meet the definition of racketeering? It seems almost criminal to me.

I think all the servo motors are interchangeable as well. There is a thread which cross referenced the parts.
What's weird is that some of the parts are more expensive from VW than Porsche (I remember looking at prices of some bolts when changing front brakes).

It doesn't end with that - pretty much everything on the air suspension, doors, windows (windshield, driver & passenger doors), lots and lots of fuel related parts...

My indy uses a catalogue that cross references all the parts and always orders whatever is cheaper from audi / pag / vw.

Btw, I also run 10x20 from a q7 on my 957.

many many of the cayenne parts are tourag parts and stamped with vw numbers on them. However they just don't seem to be any cheaper than buying the same part at the porsche dealer or aftermarket dealer!

I know from personal experience that the downpipes for the V6 (with the cats) are interchangeable between the Cayenne and the Touareg. The VW part was about a third the price.

Confirmed VW-vs-Porsche match - Left rear door lock actuator on my 2004 S - I replaced it with a VW part for 1/5 the cost.

Taking the original out, I don't think either VW or P(orsche) was on it. But it had a few numbers on it, one of which was the VW part number. Looked it up, bought on eBay from China for really cheap. That listing did confirm Cayenne fit. Did not exactly match in terms of materials, etc., but fit and function were exact, and quality looked comparable to the original. It has been working fine for several months now.

Now here's a theory - my Cayenne does not have Kessy, but if that is a porsche-only thing, then I can see that Porsche could spec all their door lock actuators to be Kessy-capable just in case the Cayenne has that. And then they could jack the price 5x and say the VW ones don't work (since they might not have Kessy, and if your car does ...). Just a theory as to how they can pretend parts are not interchangeable without completely lying. Trying to be positive, but maybe they are just lying.

I've replaced the following with VW parts in my pig:
Control arms - same part #'s minus the turbo S lowers with solid bushings according to fcpeuro, air suspension top o-ring, electrical relays, door actuators, radiator and ac fan, hvac blower fan, servos, brake booster vacuum pump, spare tire, tow bar (possibly, I haven't tried personally but remember seeing it done)
Also, vcds/vag com
