Great Q. At first I thought I liked the long rails as an option to tie stuff down on top ("stuff" being a Christmas tree each December). Then I was glad mine came without. Then I thought maybe the crossbars for actual sport UTILITY items like snow boards and a cargo box. Or an articulated Bike Carrier. Or canoe attachment. But it would simply have made it easier to keep the Christmas tree from rolling off the roof each winter. Plus crossbars look too Touaregy. So then I was back to no rails at all.

But I keep seeing one zip around the freeways with crossbars, and I actually like them. Serving no purpose whatsoever, they call out to me, "look what I could do up here..." So I'm pro-crossbar right now. Looks SUV-ish. Which I forget I'm driving most days.

I prefer the look without the rails. I use Thule crossbars for the ski rack during the winter, and I take them off in the summer.

They are still on right now, because the wife and I are going skiing tomorrow!

With roof rails! Since I placed the order, I started noticing the latest trend is Aluminum roof rails. Now I wish I've gone with aluminum instead of black roof rails. Can someone post 2011 all black cayenne with black roof rails pics.

Fortunately,no front plate required in Florida,which will help as well

Without, but I've got the Porsche cross bars and the Thule cross bars which I put on when needed. The Thule accommodate many different uses, but the I already had the Porsche silver ones which look better. So for looks I vote without, next for looks Porsche Silver cross bars, function Thule cross bars.

My other SUV has the rails, never have used them and they are just something else to make washing and waxing more difficult.
