Hi all,

I will be test driving a porsche cayenne 2006 (non-turbo) for the next two days before buying it. What do you recommend me to look at it and verify to make sure I don't run into future maintenance problems? It currently has 60 000km, do you think this is a lot or it's fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One more thing, how are these cars with maintenance; do they break often or they are generally reliable?

I'd look for maintenance records from the previous owner. I'd also get a good pre-purchase inspection from a qualified Porsche mechanic or dealer. This will probably cost you ~$300, but it could be well worth it in the long run.

Cayennes can be quite reliable if the common issues are addressed. If not, they can be very expensive to maintain.

The previous owner said he didn't have any problems with it, but I'll be asking for the maintenance records. So pretty much, the only thing I should really do is check it with a porsche mechanic and make sure everything's fine right?

If he did not have any problems with it, and he is telling the truth, you will have the issues Scotitude listed so work on the basis of a $5k budget over time

There certainly can be others, depending on how your Cayenne is equipped, such as air suspension issues and PCM Navigation screen issues.

Any time you buy a car with lots of technology, there can be issues. Just ask a BMW X5 owner.

Overall, my Cayenne has been quite reliable. You just need to be prepared with some money set aside for repairs, and you need to be prepared for relatively expensive repair bills, especially if you have the vehicle serviced at a dealer. As an example, a brake job will cost you roughly $1,900 at the dealer. If you can do simple things like changing brake pads yourself, you can save quite a bit.

Oh, one more thing... Cayennes eat tires and they aren't cheap. If you buy one with larger wheels like 20", they are even more. Just one more thing to factor into your budgeting. My OEM tires went about 26,500 miles. My second set went roughly 35,000. I'm on my third now, and they are still looking okay at a little over 15,000.

As Dennis points out on tires, I like the 18's and 19's for better ride and size availability.

What is an acceptable price for the 2006 cayenne v6 at 60,000km, does somewhere around 30k sound like a good deal?

No, that's not a good deal.

Oh, and I would look for an "S" on the back hatch. If it doesn't have that, then don't buy it.

dude, 18-22k for a 2006 V6, Ill sell you mine for a much reasonable price and its been cared for........

You could easily find an S V8 for 25k range.

I've been looking around and I couldn't find anything cheaper here in Montreal for a 2006 v6. I mean the 2006 S is in the 35-40k range. I couldn't find anything cheaper than 30k for the 2006 v6. Also, I don't really want to buy one with very high mileage, 60k km seems reasonable right? If you guys are saying this is too expensive I might step off and wait a bit for a better deal.
