I thought I would update this thread, as it contains some erroneous info.
In 2008, in France, the Cayenne GTS came standard with a six speed manual transmission and PASM with steel springs! The PASM with air suspension was an option.
PASM and Air suspension are two different things (as explained by Porsche52).

Well, ok then, necroposting on a six year old thread.

With maybe a dash of karma/point-whoring thrown in by mentioning a manual Cayenne. I'm kidding, of course, maybe...

Bah, it was the first thread I found while searching for answers. It left me a bit perplexed.
I guess my OCD kicked in...

I had an '06 Cayenne S TE without air suspension (so no PASM) and now have an '09 Turbo S with PASM and PDCC. If I recall what I read in the manual correctly, PASM would automatically adjust the suspension based on speed; dropping it from the highest "Terrain" level over 30 MPH and dropping it to the lower position between normal and load height at over 80 MPH.

The 2006 S did not have PASM but did have the "self leveling suspension" which had more to do with leveling the vehicle in regards to load carrying. It also had self leveling headlights which was interesting to watch when you first turned the headlamps on. My '06 had the tow package so the self leveling aspect of the steel sprung suspension was useful for me.

I can't imagine how they would do a steel spring self-leveling suspension - nor have I ever seen mention of such.. the self-leveling headlights are a European law for HID equipped cars - so they all pretty much have it.

Anyone know?

That post really makes no sense.

PASM is the adjustable (from the inside) shocks. Three buttons on the right side of the center console. PASM will automatically switch to "Sport" setting if the car is "driven in a sporty manner" (the book doesn't define what 'sporty manner' means).

"Self leveling" is the air suspension. I have no idea how steel springs would be self leveling.

That doesn't mean that springs can't have a tow package, but it wouldn't be self leveling.

And the auto height adjust based on speed from terrain to normal, or normal to low above 80 is also not "PASM", but air suspension. And it's from "Special Terrain" down to "Terrain" above 30kph.

If the A in PASM means something other than 'Air', then PASM with steel springs would could just be adjustable rates for the shocks.

> "Necro posting" might be my new favorite phrase.

PASM = Porsche Active Suspension Management. Can be had on ALL current Porsche models (718, 911, 918, Cayenne, Panamera), and has NOTHING to do with air-suspension.

What it does is magnetically adjust the shock absorber stiffness between comfort and sport settings. You can buy a Panamera or a Cayenne with only PASM and steel springs, but it comes standard with Air Suspension.

Think of an airsuspension just as a replacement for your dummy steel springs. While PASM controls the shocks.

Tom, I'm about to buy a 550 Cayenne but can you answer something for me, I know on the later models 557 558 PASM only comes witht the Turbo or Turbo S. But Is it true tthat tthe 550 model Cayenne S 2004-2007 all have PASM? Or was it optional and then latter standard for tthe tturbo and Turbo S.
