Keeping it clean. Drilling a hole in each coolant pipe and using a syringe to suck out the coolant.

I am lucky. I took my 2006 S to the dealership to check and they checked and told me that it has Aluminium pipes and not plastic pipes and it has been factory installed. Now I have never heard of a 2006 Cayenne having aluminium pipes. Could this be correct?

The quick answer - no. None of the 955's came with the aluminum pipes. Either yours were done at some point, or more likely the dealer is talking out of their ***. There are lots of hints in this thread on how to check yourself, I'd suggest doing so if you're the original owner (and never had it in for the pipes to be replaced.)

No I am not the original owner. I had checked for the pipes at two different garages, One at the Volkswagen and then a week later at the Porsche dealership. I was not there to see it for myself unfortunately. But both told me that they were aluminium pipes and not plastic. It was the dealership who said it was done by Porsche and not later changed.
I am going to confirm with Porsche North America and get back to the dealership about this then.
I hope that they will confirm to me that it was aluminium and not plastic in writing.

If you take off the cover at the back of the engine and stick a camera back there facing down and slightly forward you can take a picture. You can see a plastic pipe in the first pic and the aluminum pipes in the second. The plastic pipes are individual and the aluminum pipes are all in one piece thats why you see a wide area of aluminum. I used my phone to get the pictures.

Mtnrat, How did you manage to stick a camera down there? Is it difficult? I have access to a hoist and will it be easier on a hoist or this way?

It looks like I have to check it again myself and not trust the dealership as they never physically checked they now tell me but looked at some catalogue and the I now dont trust the Volkswagen guys either.

No hoist just open the hood, take off the covers around the sides and back of the engine and hold the camera behind the intake facing a little forward. Just take a bunch of pictures until you get one that has the same looking bits in the field of view.

You are a very optimistic chap..

Porsche's reply will be "Pipes? What pipes? We don'need no stinkin' pipes.." or something close to that. The pipes are the subject of a class-action lawsuit that has been almost settled, so chances of them even bothering to reply are nil to none.

Yea, my thoughts are if your pipes have not been changed, Just change them BEFORE they fail. Can prevent a whole world of hurt.

I used both. The larger one is the one that usually fails. The sizes are written on the T's. I used a dremel to very carefully cut the bands that clamp the hoses to the larger one then used small hose clamps in their place. Here is a pic of what I took out. Already leaking, but had not failed yet.
