Hey guys our Pano sunroof wont operate correctly. The problem lies somewhere in the wind deflector as it is getting jammed somehow. The motor works fine and the middle portion of the sunroof will open but thats all. Has anyone dissasembled one of these things???? I think that maybe a cable or somthing is bound up somewhere that probably isnt too hard to fix but im a little scared of tearing into this thing.

Dumb question but have You tried to resync it yet. You push on the button and hold it for 20 seconds or so then retry to use it and see if it works correctly. Ours was behaving similar to Yours until I learned the resync trick.

Thanks Glen, Push the button??? what button?? i have a rotary ****. Does it also push in or something???

I am going to try and open it with the manual method in the owners manual today and see what i can find out from that as well.

Thanks Mud thats great. I tried a few things. I used the emergency operating lever to try and open it, the first pane of glass starts to slide up and back but then stops because the winddef. is not rotating up to allow it to go further. Im pretty sure that is the problem the winddeflector is jammed. I am thinking about taking off the first pane of glass off to see what is jamming the wind portion.

Sorry I wasnt clear, the pdf above explains it (cool reference, Thanks!) but basically put it in the closed position and push the **** up/in and hold in for 20-30 secs. Then open and close the pano and its good to go.

Thats weird i could not get the rotary **** to "push in".

It doesn't "push in" per se. And I quote
"Learning the end positions: If any of the points mentioned below are suspected to have happened, it is recommended to relearn the end positions for the control unit. Before learning, switch off the ignition and switch it on again. To learn, the **** (emergency button) is to be pressed in the position 'Roof completely closed' until the roof is completed closed. First the sun blind closes completely, then the roof segments A(1) and B(2) and C(3). Learning the end positions must be carried out to completion, otherwise the roof cannot be electrically activated."

So with the **** in closed roof position, you push it foward and upward(push on the white indicator line on the ****), towards the windshield and hold it!! The panorama roof system can be a bit of a pain in *** at times. It has anti pinch features that cause the window panes to stop and or reverse direction. I have had some luck using silicone spray in key locations. Is the car in Warranty?? If so take it to the dealer. Trust me, they will love you, nothing like working on a panorama roof under warranty!!! YUCK!!!

oooooo!!! That's a tuffy. 996 or 993? They both can be hell. I replaced a couple of Panorama roof's because the rear most window pane crackes. They don't pay good at all(approx 5-6 hrs), its not brain surgery, just alot of trim r&r and window pane adjustment, plus you have to swap over the motors and the sun shade, errrrrr. They look pretty funny with the interior gutted and a huge hole in the roof! I would much rather do a 4 tires and an alignment in 2 hrs and flag the same amount then spend all day dickin around with a panorama roof!! I once did a 996 targa under warranty for some damn rattles of all things, that was no fun at all. It took 6 guys to remove that roof module from the car. Everyone must hold there tounges just right at the same time to squeeze it out kinda thing. 993 Targa r&r is probably the worst out of all of them. Never had to remove the entire roof (knock on wood) but shop forman has!! Poor bastard!!

Oh ok i see how it "presses in" you have to push on the foreward portion of the ****. But no it did not help. So its take it apart time....

My pano roof has no technical problem, ..but, I should admitt that we do not use it !
Reason: I have the feeling that at 65mph, we have an hurricane cat 5 inside the car !
Do I'm the only one feeling this ??
I also have a 911 Cab (996) and on this car I do not use the roof for another reason: ..it is allway folded ! ..because, to compare, (with the windscreen), at the same speed, no wind on a cab.

I took it apart today..... it took me about 5 hours to figure out what was wrong with it and to fix it. I guess the wind deflector was out of whack, these little pins on each side were not engaging the 1st window panel correctly, when i reassembled it it worked fine.
Anyhow at least i dont have to pay someone to do it.

Hi,

I have been offered 996 targa with a crack right across the roof glass, I looked into the price for a new one and they are a lot of cash. Does anyone know if there is an after market version that is not produced by Porsche. I was even considering replacing the cracked glass with a piece of carbon fibre or covering up with old fashioned vinyl?

Any suggestions welcome.!
