I am wondering if the cars are equipped with the light sensor and just need the auto switch. Has anyone tried this. I can tell you from experience Porsche does do this type of thing. I replaced my PCM to one with the phone buttons. I got a little bonus .. the new one was programmed with the in dash compass function. I plugged in my new PCM and there the compass was on my dash. I have read that you need some sort of thing under the seat etc., to have the compass. It was not an option on my car, I have the option list ... yet there the compass was.

Porsche builds each car -- the wire harness are different depending on the options. My 06 did not come with dimming mirror -- one would have thought that the wire loom up to the mirror would be the same since all the cars have the auto wipers .... nope -- no wire to power the mirror.

I was told it is the same with the light switch -- no wires and a different connector.

There is a link on renntech of a member doing this very thing.

Can I Replace A Standard Switch with Auto Headlight

Looking on eBay, the switches go for about $20 bucks. Programming to enable the function is dependent on your dealer rates...(PIWIS to enable Comfort Light function)

There are other items for me to address before I get to this, but this doesn't look too bad given it appears to work.

How do you remove the headlight switch. I cant get the old one out. I pushed in and turned counterclockwise like I read about. Does not come out. Any Ideas?

I just bought the VW switch on Ebay. I am going to try it. Will let you know how it works out.

Supposed to be push in and clock wise.

Could it be that easy to do? Dealer programming sounds like it would be the biggest hassle

I have a duraametric, and I think that should work. It has worked for pretty much everything else.

I just tried again to get out the switch per the video. I was able to get it out, but had to push it out from the back. When I get the new switch I will let you guys know if the durametric does the trick.

OK so read the earlier post, the guy just changed the switch and the lights worked? No programming? So what about the light sensor?
I am planning to change the rear view mirrow to auto dimming one...that has 5 wires....presuming one for power, one for ground, one for reverse, one for outside Rear view mirrors and one for Headlight sensor??
