PLEASE don't pay to have your Cabin Filter changed!
Seriously guys...
Just received my Bosch model #C3861 from some guy on eBay for like $25.
I went out to the Cayenne, removed ONE t-15 screw holding the passenger footwell cover in place, removed (2) 5.5mm machine screws holding the Cabin Filter access door, slid out the old (filthy dirty) filter and slid in the new one. Replaced 3 fasteners, total time, 10-15 minutes.
1) Filter is located under the passenger side footwell cover. It is the cover UNDER the dashboard, behind and under the glovebox. It can be identified by the 2x 12v outlets and the footwell light. Locate the ONE (1) T-15 fastener in cover, at the edge nearest the seat, centered.
Locate: Approx 10" to the right of the glovebox key hole, go straight down following the contour of the leather (pleather) until leather ends, fastener right there. Black fastener
Remove t-15 fastener.
2) Gently pull cover down from the REAR of the cover (closest to the passenger seat) there are 2 clips, they will "pop". The cover pivots on 2 points in the front of the cover (facing engine) do NOT pull down on FRONT of cover.
3) Unplug footwell light, rotate cover CW to have access to filter access door.
4) Locate 2 x shiney silver 5.5mm hex head machine screws holding the long 10" x 2" filter access door in place. Remove the 5.5mm fasteners.
5) Door will flip down, filter will fall down and out.
6) Replace filter, put door back in while holding filter in place. Keep in mind the filter is directional. Replace 5.5mm screws
7) Replace footwell light plug, SNAP footwell cover back in place after first aligning front pivot points.
8) Replace t-15 screw.
NOTE: The T-reg does NOT have the t-15 fastener, the Cayenne DOES!!!!

Thanks so much for posting this. We took a trip to Savannah, GA for a wedding and it was the first time I really used the A/C since I got the Pepper in early Feb. I noticed a smell, not real obnoxious but just not pleasant. I looked in the owner's manual for instructions on where the cabin (partcal) filter is and it says to see your friendly dealer, yeah right! Searched RL, found this posting, followed the instructions and removed a very dirty filter. Vacuumed it out for a quick fix and have a replacement on order from AutohausAZ. I'll take photos to add to this thread when I install the new filter.
I guess the cabin air filter is not part of the CPO pre-inspection or the 30k mi. service, it's not on either invoice (from the same dealer)??

Filter came from AutohausAZ Monday. Took some photos. A couple of minor items:
1) I did not have to unplug the light or the 12v outlets when I replaced the filter, there's plenty of room to just drop the cover and leave it sitting on the floor while replacing the filter.
2) The filter is keyed, there's only one way to correctly install the filter. I took a photo of the "key" on the filter. Pretty easy when you look at it.
3) I never knew the 12v outlets were under there until I did this task, they're hidden pretty well. I even bought one of those 1 to 2 expanders a few weeks ago expecting I would need it on a trip sometime.
4) I used a Dymo type labeler to put a label with the date and mileage the filter was changed just in case a dealer tech decides to replace it. If he took the whole filter apart he may decide to replace it anyway for his effort but if all he had to do is remove 1 screw he'd be less likely to continue the task. The label is on the lower filter housing on the left side from the Porsche/VW/Delphi big white sticker, they should have no trouble seeing it.

Resurrecting this one..... Thanks to Charlie and Bill. Great writeup.
BTW, the 5.5mm screw can be removed with a 7/32" socket.

I'm pretty sure it's Mudman's, if I'm wrong someone will let me know I'm sure.
It's basically just removing the plastic pieces in the left and right front corners, the filter containers are under there.

Yes, in order to minimize inventory and reduce (parts) cost, there was a single cover designed.
When mounted under the dash, the lettering is upside down; when mounted in the rear cargo compartment, the lettering is correct.
There's a reason why you get to be the most profitable car company.....it's the little things.

ok, how often should it be changed?
I noticed a slight AC smell lately. I'm at 12k miles. Does this sound like it?
It's almost like when you go from AC in the summer to turn on your home heater in the winter type smell? Or maybe I need to stop leaving my gym clothes in there....

Indeed a fine thread, 10 minutes if that.
Filter was $21.23 from Sunset Porsche, got a pair of wiper blades for $36.78 also and they threw in a pair of 911 fridge magnets (in Sunset racing livery).
