i signed the deal for a 2011 cayenne turbo to replace my 2012 ford raptor. (raptor is constantly broken)
the biggest problem is 18 inch rims don't fit over the brakes on a 2011+ and 19inch off road tyres are limited. I'm looking for lifting spacers to lift 2'' and trying cooper Zeon LTZ 275/55R20 XL+ 811mm diameter
otherwise
275/45R20 XL+ 757mm diameter or 255/55R19 XL+ on a spare set of rims.
I'll most likely get the 275/45 20's as mostly driving in the desert

I didnt think many turbos came in steel to allow for spacers.........I would look to get a diesel or 6 for offroad accomodations.

the turbo should have air and maybe look for a semi aggressive tire.......and thats it......set the air to offroad.

Nitto Grappler 265/50-20's should fit too.

I currently have the 275/45-20 Zeons on my RRS S\C and Pirelli ATR 255/55-19's on my wife's 2008 RR.

lifting spaces so sits higher on all height settings with air shocks. ie fit taller profile tyres, but im new to Porsche so it's a big learning curve for me.

Can you stop the air suspension lowing it's self at higher speeds, if you are on highest setting driving though faster patches of desert (80-100kph) you really don't want it to drop and bottom out in a dip.

Nitto trail grapplers would be great if they fit, i have them on raptor, tough tyre.

thanks

I think youre asking for trouble if your driving that fast and worry about the high speed lowering kicking in. I mean I know your not doing baja but thats more user speed excess in off road conditions over the capabilities of the PiG.

The track on the very right edge is Cayenne, the mass of tracks on the left was my raptor trying vey hard to beat the cayenne (Raptor usually can get up with a couple of cracks, but it's been windy so lots of very soft sand, so the ultimate test)

Ok on high 2 it has enough clearance but it lowers at 35 kph, so as you get run up onto sand dune it lowers!!,
But with centre diff lock on and traction control off it climbs nearly as well as my ford raptor, (Traction control on it sux). About one metre less than the raptor up a bit steep soft climb, ps i flogged the raptor and nursed the Cayenne!

Does any one know of a lock out to hold suspension in the highest setting until i tell it to lower, or know of a brand of suspension spacers..

After three hours in desert i was quite impressed and no damage, the 4wd system overheated at one stage but thats too many RPM for too long i hope, after that i manual changed a lot more and it never over heated again.
Overall the Cayenne Turbo is a weapon in the desert even with 275 x 20 road tyres, fully inflated.

Trying to off road prep a Cayenne diesel, NOT a Unimog!
Yes Porsche did neuter the diesel by deleting the locking dif option
Getting a set of 255/55R18 XL General Grabber AT 2, plus two for the roof basket
Having proper skid plates made. Trying to source a set of Varioblocks.
Anyone know where to buy Varioblocks or have them shipped?

sinktheboat, my friend is modding Q7s, touaregs and cayennes for off road usage. he developed i.e. a clearance kit that enabled him to use 305/55 R20s on his personal Q7 4.2V8 tdi. shoot me a PM if interested, I can give you his email.

Very nice, 305/55 R20s add ~4 inches to the overall diameter of stock tires.

While not available here, are any of the V8 TDIs available with locking front-rear diffs?

nope. but you can either have them rebuilt to accomodate locks or use touareg / cayenne locking diffs, they are all interchangeable.

My first off-road (bed-rock mountain trail) experience in my first Cayenne with every option including air suspension prompted my wife to say " If we're going to keep this up, you need to get a new Jeep Wrangler". I did and that's the answer. Get the right hammer for the job. Whether the Cayenne will or will not fit the bill without extensive investment is mute. You will tear it up.

My 958 Cayenne is often in the desert, it's like a mountain goat in the dunes. If I can get bigger tyres on it and control the ride height manually it would be the perfect car for me.
Only catch though is in the soft sand the 4wd system overheats quite fast.

denversteve,
Jeep is a rough ride in desert and a horrible ride on the road, I have a ford raptor and prefer to take cayenne in the desert, it's good offroad and great onroad
