Here is the factory remedy for "Recall Campaign A506, rear three point seat belts."





A little bit of history. When we purchased the Pepper in Jan 04, I noticed immediately that the rear belts would not hold a child seat as effectively as it should. When the seat belt retracted too far, it would no longer cinch (sp?). I brought this up with the dealer immediately, but they said they have not heard of any problems.

Well, I guess they have, and this is their solution! They basically have shortened the belts with ugly clips that would be uncomfortable to any passenger and they also rattle! I was driving from the dealership and started to hear a rattle I never heard before. I looked in the back and couldn't believe my eyes! I called the Service Manager immediately and told him this is UNACCEPTABLE for a $60K plus vehicle. I explained to him that I find it nearly impossible to believe that Porsche couldn't come up with a better solution. He told me he would get back to me. After calling the area manager the response was that they couldn't locate the "strap holder" anywhere else and that others have already complained.

I guess I am going to have to write a letter to PCNA. Anyone got a contact there?

I noticed them last night- had the car in a couple weeks ago for other issues and that was one of the updates. I don't sit in back but was flipping the seats down to load something. I never hold a car seat so I think I'll just take them out. They do look pretty cheesy.

until you said something I hadn't even noticed... then I went outside and took a look at my rear seats.. for f*ck sake that is such a crappy way to fix that problem....

how do I take them off??

Don't think it would be a good idea to remove these ugly things as it would be legally construed as altering a safety device.

I wonder how many units worldwide are going to have these unacceptable clips installed?

I pretty much agree with you guys, its such a cheap and ugly way to get around the problem.

To remove them you need to find the plastic clip which should be at the top of the metal peice. Loosen the belt enough to undo the clip and then you will be able to pull the seatbelt through a slot in the metal. You dont need to undo any bolts or anything. I dont know about the legality of removing them so do so at your own risk.

They are fugly though.

Am complaining as well- seems to me the "right" way to fix this is to provide a repair to the retractor. Or maybe replace the belts....

My car went in for inspection today, this is on the list to do, when I asked them not to do it I was told that as it was safety related, if I told them not to do it then they were not allowed to do warranty work.

I will remove it afterwards if I find it annoying

I think Mr Porsche will be facing further complaints from customers if he can't get around to putting better belts in the back of the Cayenne. In my humble the design of the rear seat is a disaster, from the complex, heavy folding, the waste of space to the lack of safety and convenience features, it's a disappointment to see a Porsche with such a crude design. All they needed to do was look at a current model Ford (Expedition or the Volvo XC90) for a much better solution.

This is so wrong from PCNA, so cheap, so bad, what can you say, i am sorry that we are treated cheaper than a North Korean car manufacturer.

Just noticed mine installed by edealer. My young nieces. (75 to 90 Lbs) HATE them too heav..y too hot ...too uncomfortable and bulky at the waist. Said if they wanted a 10# Texas sized belt buckle they would get a Harley and a tatoo.

Taking themn off later ... Dont have child seats anyway.
