Default 05 Cayenne Turbo, Rear wheel bearing DIY

Seen a few posts on here from search. Looks like another ugly job. Anyone have any input after doing it?

My road noise is not tire noise, 4 brand new tires and noise is the same. Discussed this with a dealer mechanic and he told me Cayenne don't exhibit symptoms such as a wobble test of the bearings. They simply start making noise and will wobble as it gets worse.
Thanks

Thank you. Looks like a really substantial bearing hydraulic press is needed.

Find a lower-mile CTT from boneyard and switch out the rear hub upright = 30min job and most likely good for quite awhile....

Good idea. Might be a tough find but worth a shot. Thanks

It's a nightmare and I have the proper tools and a hoist. Haha.

LAPorsche guy:
specifically what part? I have a lift, tools and presses. Still looks hard. Recently put a clutch in my wife's 997, looks almost like I'd rather do that again instead of bearings.

It was a while ago and I remember a lot of swearing. I did it on the car which is maybe why it was a PIA. Next time I will do on my work bench. I'd still rather do 996/7 clutches all day long then the wheel bearing. haha. Good luck!

I did the front wheel bearings recently on my p!g. The job isn't bad as long as you have the right tools. I took the spindles off and pressed the bearings in.

Used a 20T press, wheel bearing adapter kit, and wheel bearing clamp from harbor freight. You'll need to have some square tubing or extra metal plates to space the spindle/bearing out from the press.

That being said, the rear parking brake is a PITA to get back on and adjusted. Good luck!

The following link is for the front wheel bearing but the tools/process should be similar -

Just go the used hub upright route. Done and done...

Wheel bearings are never a fun job. Since I have not had the joy yet, what particularly makes the rears of the Cayenne such a PITA?

They are just bigger than your average bearing so most tools wont fit and they tend to be stupid tight in the hub. If you have @ least a 20 ton press its more than doable @ home. Front or rear it is kinda a bitch to keep the upright positioned correctly while you press.

This is the BEST bearing press video I've ever seen:
