Question for you guys that said he should run... How many miles are left before the engine dies based on what you see?

It doesn't look like a cylinder wall anymore, I don't even see signs of a crosshatch pattern...from the shaded flakes, it literally looks like a scratched up piece of galvanized sheet metal.
I'm guessing a trained ear will already hear the ticking sound. In 500 miles the sound will be quite noticeable and within 3,000 miles it will be a 5,500 lb paperweight.
And I don't even know what the black dots are. Specks of carbon? If it's pitting, there's enough life to drive it to the nearest salvage yard.

Thanks 19psi! I have heard so much about cylinder scoring that I've become terrified. I have owned my car for almost a year and put 3k miles on her during this time. I'm afraid to invest into anymore performance mods until I can determine that I haven't been bitten by the scoring bug!

I usually don't believe in such additives, but I did read some good things about Ceratec. Have you actually used it in your engine Dilberto?

With all the negative posts here I avoided comment, as I am not really convinced this engine will seize in 3000 miles; although of course if given a choice I would probably buy a different one. I have a 2004 CTT that has gone 250,000 kms and 14 years of long winters and constant starting in temps down to -40 C; I run the engine very hard and even though it is completely smooth at idle and when winding out, I'm starting to think about the Ceratec.

It's running pretty good so I don't want to gum things up, or have plug fowling problems, so any usage reports in Porsche engines would be great. Thanks!

I use it in my Cayenne and my 928 (it has 155,000 miles on it, the last 30,000 with boost)

Thanks - I will give it a try. I'm starting to listen to every little noise from the engine now!

Never used Ceratec before. Is it a one and done type of treatment or an additive that is used every oil change? How are you using it? Sounds like it might be good as a precaution on any CS. Anybody know of any downsides?

Think its good for 25-30k miles IIRC...not needed at every oil change or anything.

Since it is so cheap and the oil change intervals are so long, I am doing it at every change in all my high mileage vehicles. Wonder if it is allowed in my airplane engine......

Here is more info on the Cera Tec
Amazon Amazon

It says it treats 5qts of oil and lasts up to 50k km.

I believe the theory is that the tiny ceramic particles in it will fill tiny grooves and bond to the metal surfaces, making them harder and smoother. Yes, just what we would want to avoid cylinder scoring, which is why ...

I put some in about 1k miles ago in my 2004 S as a purely preventative step. Engine has not blown up yet, and I really can't tell any changes. I don't know if we will ever get definitive proof that it helps anything, but I have not seen any negative reports out there.

Well I just put some in; I did an oil change last week and over filled it a bit, so I drained a liter out and added one can - less than recommended but we'll see. After adding it the engine was a little bit quieter and a little bit smoother (maybe 20%), but it was pretty quiet and smooth to start with.

The only downside I read about was if your engine is leaking oil into the cylinders the plugs can get coated and foul a bit. I am going to run it for a few weeks and pull them (they are fairly new) and see and will report back.

Looking forward to your feedback Zakowsky!
