Default Mobil 1 Spring 2018 rebate

Something to pass along to my fellow forum members. If Mobil 1 is your drink of choice, then you will want to take advantage of their Spring 2018 rebate which is quite significant.

Best to all!

Not even free oil will bring me back to Mobil 1. I've switched to far superior Motul 8100 x-cess 5w-40.

Thanks, but where and what is the rebate? If it includes the diesel version I may go for it.

After seeing too many blackstone reports, I agree that Mobile1 is not the best oil. Especially for our engines which are subject to the deaded scoring. Though, M1 with a a healthy shot of ZDDP additive is not a terrible drink of choice for older vehicles or a small shot of ZDDP for the ones with cats/o2 sensors that may get indigestion like the Cayenne!

I used to run the 5/40 Turbo diesel version of M1 because it had high levels of Zinc and Phosphorus, maybe the highest of all M1 oils. However, it doesn't seem to have very good shear resistance properties where viscosity starts dropping off fairly quickly, possibly due to the higher RPMs in our high-performance gas powered motor vs those seen in a turbo diesel truck that make power and torque much lower in the rev range. I switched to Motul 8100 xcess and then to JGR Driven DT40 which is what I now use in all of my Porsches that require a 5W/40 weight oil.

I have not tried DT40 before, but am happy to give it a shot. Been on Rotella T6 for a little while in the CTT. What/where is your favorite source for buying it?

I buy it directly from LN Engineering. They run a sales from time to time, but always during the Holidays, so I purchase what I need for all my vehicles of all Driven lubricants at that time, then adjust the next year. For anyone switching from Mobil 1 to Driven DT40, the additive packages in both those oils don't get along well together so it's recommended to do a flush using Driven BR30 or BR40 break-in oil as an interim step. The flush is simply an oil and filter change where you run the BR oil for 100-200 miles, then change the oil and filter again, refilling with the DT. If switching from Rotella that probably isn't necessary since that's already a conventional base stock oil and not a synthetic.

LN sells both the BR and DT oils.
