Default Bose vs Standard Audio

Looking at a really nice 2013 Cayenne. My only disappointment is that it doesn't have the Bose system. How good or lousy is the standard system in a Cayenne?

I feel like the sound question is always subjective to the person listening but I have had high end audio systems in previous cars and felt some were good and others missed the mark. I have the standard stereo and find it much better than other cars I have had with the “base” stereo. That said I personally would never pay more or even want a bose product, it’s all marketing just like Beats and their speakers are very flat meaning you don’t get tonal highs or lows just kind of this mushy mid range which for some reason ppl seem to like because those two companies keep producing more products. I would pay for the burmester, even that system has some flaws but in terms of car audio it’s pretty impressive. Hope that rant helps! Ha

The Bose stuff is crap. Buy the one with the base system as it won't use fiber optics from the PCM to the amp and it will make upgrading it much easier since it uses standard amp preouts and connections. With a Bose system you need a converter, like the MOST one, or you are limited to only upgrading the speakers.

My previous 2014 had Bose, I'm somewhat of an audiophile... and it wasn't horrible. I was relatively happy with it until I heard the Burmester (which is in my current 2015 Cayenne). It's definitely flat up top - and the EQ settings aren't granular enough to let you adjust it how it needs to be adjusted, but it's not bad.

I have not heard the base system *in a Cayenne*.

I can tell you that, when comparing Base to Bose in a *Boxster*.... the Base sounds better IMO. My wife's 2014 Boxster was a base stereo, her 2015 has the Bose.... and the Bose sounds like crap in there.

I have a base '05 and the sound system is fine. I have an iPod wired in in place of the CD unit. I have BOSE in an 07 997 and I don't think the Cayenne is bad by comparison. But, understand, these are 65-year old, Navy 5" gun and many Harley miles ears. Also, as a prior poster mentioned, the BOSE system is a PITA when you want to upgrade.

Thanks for that infp. Make me feel much better about a standard system. I have nice audio at home....Levinson preamp, Quad amps, and just got rid of Magnaplanar speakers. So, I am glad to hear what feedback I just received. I can upgrade things if I want to.
