Default Cats removal problem

I have a 04 CS that blew out its cat pipes (the flex pieces failed). Rather than spend the $ for OEM cats I chose to weld up straight pipe stainless replacements. I thought I might be able to get away with spacers for the O2 sensors, but that is not working because there is no room to add the extenders where the bung is placed. Question is whether I can flash tune to remove the CEL. Anybody out there in the same predicament? perhaps solved the problem? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Legality issue aside (like 2500$ fine for removal of cat converter) https://www.catalyticconvertersonlin...ter-fact-sheet
I believe there are different software versions for markets that don't have strict emissions control.
If you put different software and have to do emissions test - they may catch it and that may trigger the fine.

No. 1 No inspections where this car is registered. No. 2 $2500 is less than the $4500 quote I got from the shop to replace them. No. 3 The pig isn't worth more than $5000 at best.

You can get them decoded from your ECU. I did it on mine and I can pass readiness test at inspection w/o issues.

Ask around or find some local chiptuner who can do it.

No inspection as in no visual inspection or no kind of emissions check at all? If all you want to do is not stare at the CEL a simple reflash should be able to take care of that. If theres no visual inspection performed and only a OBD scan you maybe be able to get away with a reflash but maybe not. That's what everyone used to do in my state but apparently the emissions stations updated their software and they can now see in the DME when certain emissions checks (monitors) such as cat efficiency are disabled and people are now failing all of a sudden when they used to pass.

You CAN have the secondary O2 sensors coded out. Of course, you need the primaries. Probably easier just to get some bungs welded in and use o2 extenders or mini cats.

PTEC...no inspections of any kind
I think the best bet is to plug the old bungs , extend the cable and reinstall further down the exhaust pipe where there is room to work

I’ve never had good luck with the spacer truck and tried it on multiple vehicles. Get some aftermarket magnaflow cats welded in and call it good. Then can be had for much less than the numbers you are mentioning. Good luck
