Carfax for 2009 shows excellent service records through 50k miles.

FOLLOW UP QUESTION - I missed the low mile 2008 CTTS, but there are some other 2006 CTTS up and down the west coast that might be interesting.

Is there a strong reason to consider the 2008/09 variant over the 2006 model year?

Thanks!

To me, the refreshed bodywork of the 957 looks quite a bit better, and is actually my favorite model for Cayenne looks, where it still has some visual beef rather than the pointy nose, rounded hatch, and teardrop taillights. The 957 also has most of the coolant issues resolved and the newer DFI motor.

A strong reason? Not really. How individual vehicles are optioned will make the most difference and if you prefer the exterior styling of one design over the other.

If you are looking for a 955CTT/S just make sure that the coolant tubes and Tees have been done and the rest is very straightforward. Note the 957 does have a power bump with the larger 4.8 and the option of PDCC which the 955 did not have.

Newer.

More power out of the 4.8

Coolant pipes not an issue (manifold out let may be).

Looks (totally subjective).

I'm not sure any of those are "strong" reasons. I'm not sure any of those would justify the cost difference. But those are choices you need to make.

For me the 955 & 957 are roughly equivalent. It would come down to condition, mileage, options and price (with an equal 957 costing more than it's 955 counterpart).

UPDATE - ok, two more choices - both 2006 CTTS, one with 60k and limited service history, the other a local car with good service records / documentation.

Here's the lower mile pig: http://www.davesmith.com/used/Porsch...c4e78f3554.htm

And here's the local pig: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto...353330296.html

Does LOW MILES always win the day? Pricing will be similar - maybe a few thousand less on the higher model. MUCH easier to get to the local car, the low mile car is in IDAHO, up in the panhandle.

The CTTS is sure hard to find!!

thx for your thoughts

No, Service History and proper care always win the day.

If the one in Idaho has a good service history I would probably jump on it if I were you. It looks extremely clean and also has the carbon fiber interior trim package which is kind of hard to find. It is one of those little things that really makes the interior feel special and is incredibly expensive to add later. With that, the full leather (and color dash) of the turbo models, and an aftermarket touchscreen head unit/radio the interior does not feel at all like that of a 12 year old car!

I'd rather have a higher mileage, well cared for, with records Cayenne over a lower mileage example without that stuff. I specifically wanted a higher mileage one, at that point all the problems have already been taken care of...

If you dare to venture out to Canada, there are some really good deals for your budget. There is a extremely clean 2009 or 2008 Turbo with 60,000 miles, black on sand I think, and he's asking $21,000 USD or best offer ($29,000 CAD).

Gentlemen -
Thanks for the Canada thoughts - the exchange makes it even more interesting, but we are in the crazy State of CA, so documentation and smog issues might make an 'international' purchase overly complex.

a local CTTS presents with this service record from (90k to 110k) below - is a quart of oil every 1k miles considered high, or an indication of anything? It has 120k miles now - so there is a 10k gap in the meticulous record keeping, the current owner purchased this from his boss, the guy who kept these notes. He may have more info, going to see it on THURS this week. Any thoughts?
thanks
Tom
