The inside edges of my front tires are feathered and a bit noisy. The current set has 11k mi (installed at 59k, currently at 70k). No alignment performed when this set was installed and no record of them being rotated. From what I've read toe issues lead to feathering.

Front: 7/32", inside feathered on both sides
Rear: 6/32", evenly worn

No driveability issues and it tracks perfectly straight.

What do you think is the best option to get the most life out of this set?

1) Swap front to rear and side to side, no alignment
2) Swap front side to side and rear side to side, no alignment
3) Alignment, swap front to rear and side to side

I could pay for a toe only alignment, had that done by an independent Porsche shop on my 87 911 and had good results. Cost only $90.

I agree that the feathering is due to excessive toe. I would have them swap front to back and side to side and get a front toe-only alignment. They can't adjust any of the other parameters anyway.

*edit I stand corrected, apparently the other two parameters can be adjusted. Still, I'd just focus on toe.

Toe is the single most important cause of tire wear in my experience.

So the castor & camber aren't adjustable on a Cayenne? Mine is a basic steel sprung base model. Does anyone know what the toe in specs are for the front on an 09 V6? Thanks

Unless the steel spring suspension is so different from the air suspension, caster and camber are adjustable too.

There are some eccentric bolts in the wishbones. Can't remember off the top of my head where any other bolts are for adjustment.

i would suggest you get your alignment checked before you do anything else.

If the feathering is even then it is probably the alignment. If it is uneven, it is probably your shocks or suspension. I currently have a similar problem on my E63 AMG and with the alignment correct I can only trace it back to either a worn shock or other otherwise loose suspension part. My issue is only on one side.

Thanks everyone for the input. Scheduled an alignment for Friday with an independent shop, I'll post the results and from there decide on the rotation. That I can easily due myself and I'm anxious to put the Cayenne on my 2 post lift.

Alignment was definitely off, especially the front toe. I'm going to rotate front to back and side to side. Hopefully I can get close to 30k out of these tires.

Left Front Toe Before: -.17, after .04 (0 to .08 acceptable)
Right Front Toe Before: .15, after .04

Left Rear Toe Before: .33, after .17 (.08 to .25 acceptable)
Right Rear Toe Before: .12, after .11
