Getting 300+ RWHP out of a 944 turbo
Hey everybody,
I just bought a 86' 944 turbo with 120k. Car is mint. No dash cracks or tears in the seats ect... I have all of the records and it was well taken care of. I want to modify it to hit over 300 at the wheel mark. Any ideas of what I should do? Looking for expert insight in the modding area. I don't want to compromise reliability either. I do know with modifications you will have to compromise some reliability. I just want to do everything right the first time.
Thank you guys

As the others have said there are many options out there for you.
A Vitesse Racing Stage 3 Kit would be one of the simplest ways to reach your 300hp goal.
Also consider a Rogue Tuning MAF kit and a custom turbo from Lindsey Racing or Pauer Tuning.
The 944 Turbo sub forum is a wealth of info and there are heaps of threads concerning turbo figures and which suppliers offer the best packages. Happy hunting

I would recommend you get on the phone and price what it would cost to get your k26/6 converted to a k27/6. Then look around for a MAF kit here on the list and ebay etc. Larger injectors would be necessary price them. Also get a good waste gate and a test pipe. You tune that right and I bet you would be at 300 . HOWEVER, You really need to think about how good your car stops / handles etc. It sounds like you have a well kept car. And you actually come across as being really happy with your car right now!
If your cars turbo and struts are original you should remember that your talking about adding another 125 plus HP to it to lay down 300hp. I for one would work on my suspension and brakes first. I know that is probably not what you want to hear but I would be willing to bet most guys on here would back me up on it. If you have not done a chip, test pipe and intake upgrade I would do that first. Its the cheapest power you will ever get and you really won't be loosing anything?
OzJustin is pointing your in the right direction for a new complete "Kit" to take you straight there. And that option is great because they also would come with support while tuning you car once you start making changes to it.
And as far a LSX swap goes I have done it. My uncle and I did a LS2 swap on a 86 944 turbo. 77k orig miles great car except the car had a salvaged title and needed a front cap first. It is SO expensive to do this. Unless my goal was closer to 500hp I would not even consider doing this with a 944 or 951. However I would recommend LSX swap if you start with a RX7 instead. The 93 + models are lighter than our cars, newer and actually were designed with more hp from the factory. 255hp I think for the 93+. But even going with an older RX7 your going to save a ton of money and have more options. They make great cars for LSX conversions. Not to mention how much cheaper and easier it is to find parts for a Mazda vs our cars. Plus it will save one more tree, eh i mean save one more 951 keeping our universe in balance. Just some suggestions. PM Tony G. He can tell you everything you need to know about getting 300hp from a 27/6 and I believe he too is has a LSX 944...

Then you can start small and build as you go . I ve owned many of these cars and rebuilt quite a few ,and the same things fail on all of them with age
( catch the $$ things before they break)
There's plenty of info out there and more than one source to research ..
Chip sets
exhaust
waste gate
Mass air
turbo upgrade ( oem #8) or modified 1/2 garett and #8 hot
ect.

change your head, manifold, full exhaust, boost enhancer, cam, stand alone computer, meth injection and bigger turbo with the maf kit and then go get it tuned. All that got me 550rwhp. This winter im going into the motor
