Need advice on track day brakes..
I need some advice about the stock brakes on my '89 911. The Prototech Stage II engine upgrade in it puts out 550hp, so I clearly need to get better than stock brakes for track days. Suspension, tranny, clutch, etc. are already done.
So....help me out if you are savvy on my options. Thanks in advance.

The easiest upgrade would be to 993 tt "big reds" or equivalent calipers and rotors up front and the 965 calipers and rotors in the back. You need an adapter due to the different mounting up front, but otherwise it's a simple change to get bigger pads and rotors. You can also add a 993 C2 master cylinder to help a bit with pedal feel.
Bob Brooks (viperbob) at Devek did this for my '92 and has a kit put together for the MC conversion (it needs adapters but otherwise fits fine). You can get him at 650-369-3383. Devek is a Rennlist sponsor.

As usual, Bill is right,......
I'd add that Big Reds have been discontinued by Brembo (the tooling finally wore out) and these have been replaced by the GTP line of brakes for these cars.

Steve,
Speaking of the GTP brakes, where can I get replacement rotors that are slotted vs. the factory ones with cast holes? I'll need some in the not so distant future.

Hi Jim:
GTP's use Porsche TT OEM rotors and there is not a slotted, direct replacement option on those. The front hats were specifically made for the less-costly 993 TT front rotor and the rear uses the TT OEM ones to retain the E-brake.
I do slotted rotors (Alcon) in that size but they are NOT cheap since they are full-floating and require different hats/hardware.

LOL. I was afraid of that....
Looks like I'll stick with the 993TT rotors.
Thanks,
Jim

I'm using Pagid Orange, but have tried the blacks as well. Seems like the Pagid blacks are never available for my calipers....
Might try a Pagid yellow pad next time.

930man,
I'm in Charleston, SC. I've been at VIR quite a bit, incl the Mazda event. Had a good time, but had to leave early Sun with two sessions to go, as I was there the prior two days with the Audi/BMW/MB out of DC and was running out of tires. VIR has to be my favorite track with Road Atlanta right behind it.
Were you in the 997?

I'm trying to make Road Atlanta MId July, but having just moved into our new house yesterday.... I'm not sure if I'll make it.
We'll also be at VIR in Sept with PCA, Oct with Synergy (old G&W group), and Nov with PCA.
