Loctite 574 vs . . .
Read here about motor and racing shops swear by loctite 574 for split case and gasket coating applications.
Been reading an in depth loctite thread on a motorcycle thread (AV Rider)
Could any one elaborate on 574 vs 510, 515, and 518?
I read about 510 for heat, 515 for flexibility, and 518 for contaminant tolerance. Is 574 outdated?
I have varied applications from old cycles to a couple 911's.
All the best.

I would think based on the Loctite specs that 515 or 573 "MIGHT" work but I wouldn't' deviate my self. Do you want to guess with Toyota Bond or something else for a split case or mating the girdle to the block only to find out it leaked and you have to tear the entire engine down again.
I'd study the specs of anything you are going to use very closely for something this time intensive. There's are reason they chose this, my guess on the 574 was speed of cure.
Also, on 574 be sure it is fresh. It does have a shelf life. Why not call or write Loctite and ask them specifically what you could use in its place and their recommendation.

Basically 515 and 574 depending on the viscosity required. 510 for high heat - like exhaust applications.
If I'm doing a pcar case I'll use 574.

Bob,
I am guessing your Toyota Bond is the same as threebond and yamabond. We have had good success with Threebond products over the years. We do use 574 on cam tower to head sealing on the aircooled motors and use Threebond on the case halves.
cheers
