Default Tire trailer for sale

Category: Accessories
Price (no $ sign please): $400
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Location (Region): NorthEast
Item Condition: Used

Tire trailer with tool box. 3/4 plywood covered in a thin light weight aluminum black diamond plating , looks great and weathers well. Included with this sale is a custom made Porsche tow hitch with a tow ball attached. This tow ball screws into the rear bumper of many Porsche vehicles that have a rear tow receiver, alleviating the need to purchase and install a tow hitch on most vehicles. I used this trailer on my 09 Cayman S and it works well with the rear tow hitch. Pick up on Long Island 11733.
Trailer can hold 4 tires as well as 4 x 5 Gallon gas cans.(not included)

Price lowered to $400 with tow ball/ hitch or $350 without

Is the tow hitch a Willwood hitch or something else?

Any pictures of the hitch?

Did you modify the bumper mounts or just screw into the rear tow hook fitting?

Screws into the Tow hitch receiver behind the rear license plate on many Porsche models. The chains from the trailer hook onto the opening in the tow hitch. Used on my 09 Cayman S

Wow, that's a good idea. A bit ghetto, but interesting in any case

I wonder however the safety of it as its not a DOT rated tow connection

Sure, you can pull the car onto a flatbed from there, but I don't think it was ever intended to be used to tow a trailer

YMMV

I have received some PM's inquiring about purchasing the tow ball hitch. However for me, it was what made me make the initial purchase . It saved me several hundred dollars versus standard hitch and install costs. So for now it's only available with the trailer purchase. If a buyer does not need the hitch, price reduced and then the ball/hitch will be sold separately.

The trailer platform dimensions are 48" long x 53" wide.
Overall the trailer is 80" long.

I like this but am concerned about the longevity of the tow hook point on the chassis. \Can anyone confirm there are no issues with this?

I'm not sure if anyone else has a similar one, let's see. However I have used it for the last two seasons without any issue. You will also attach the safety chain onto the tow hook eye opening.

Given the weight and only occasional use it appears safe. Obviously you remove your car plate to use the "tow eye", did you reattach the Cayman plate anywhere to make it visible? The trailer is plated and titled independently? Did you tie the trailer lights into the Cayman or did they stay dark?

Yes you have to remove the Cayman rear licensed plate to install the tow hitch. I stored the plate in the tool box, since it is not visible with the trailer attached. Never had an issue, since the trailer is well lit and it's plate is clearly visible. The trailer was registered and Inspected. The trailer license plate is simply screwed to the back of the trailer. The lights all work and are hooked up with a module to work with the Cayman brake lights etc.
Module included.

Nice!

I always get a chuckle when I see a Boxster or Cayman towing a tire trailer.
It just looks funny
