I am looking for roof racks for a 997 or 964 or my wife's 1987 911 (930).

This is for two road bikes.

the 964 and 930 have rain gutters so you can use a basic setup for rain gutter cars. I've put one on my 964 Turbo a couple times. These are easily and cheaply found on Craigslist (at least here in CO). Can't help you with the 997 as it likely requires a specific set of feet...

Who makes the basic set up that you have used? Have you ever had issues with damaging your rain gutters? DO you have pictures or links that you like?

I used a Thule set on my '88, no issues and worked well. I think, all in, it was a little over $300 new. There is a factory set for the 997 that come up fairly often on RL, 6speed, or check Craigslist. Suncoast has them new.
