2002 Boxster S 3.2 longblock Engine
2002 Boxster S 3.2 L Engine for Sale
Engine S/N M96/2167210999 Miles when pulled: 81,328 Engine is a partially disassembled complete stock longblock with all accessories and parts, including a set of stock exhaust manifolds. It does have the LNE Dual row pro ceramic IMS bearing upgrade. The engine was very well maintained (exhaustive maintenance log can be provided). I considered a DIY engine rebuild, but I don’t have the skills, patience or tools, so I’m putting it up for sale. History Car was a California car purchased in 2016 form a PCA member with 72,000 miles. I did the IMS Bearing retrofit to LN Engineering dual row single ceramic. LN Engineering pro kit. # IMSR21106, 75,000 mi warranty. Car was used as weekend driver, 3 autocrosses and 10 HPDE events prior to engine failure. Symptoms Engine was running fine with no noise or lopping at idle other than low oil pressure at idle when hot issue. Tried various oil weights and finally dropped sump plate to find metal debris in the sump. Performed a leakdown test before head removal: Passenger (bank 1) 1 - 10% 2 - 5% 3 - 8% Driver (bank 2) 4 - 2% 5 - 33% (leaking from intake valve) 6 - 10%Decided to take heads off to inspect and decide of a future path. I documented the teardown and removal of the heads with many photos, and a few are posted here, the rest can be emailed upon request. Preliminary inspection Bank 1 (cyl 1-3) looked very good and clean. No damage whatsoever. Bank 2 (cyl 4-6) - found broken valve keeper near cyl 5 in head under valve cover. Valve spring broken in two, and that hydraulic lifter stem was broken, 1 intake valve was bent, but was able to pull it out of guide. The cam lobe for that intake valve has a small scuff. Nothing was broken inside cylinder. Other observed damage # 5 piston - some visual evidence of valve impact with piston. One small scuff in cyl 5 wall bottom. I cannot detect anything running my finger over it. Bank 2 scavenge oil pump had evidence and damage of debris being ingested. Pump requires effort to turn by hand. Main oil pump gears are damaged from keeper debris ingested. Oil pump cassette wall has some scoring where debris was dragged on oil pump. The engine was using a full filtration filter (NAPA1042), I cut it open and found very few small magnetic particles consistent with the metallic valve keeper debris. Also found minimal sparkling particles suspended in remaining oil, appeared magnetic, consistent with smaller valve keeper debris, no bearing material. Available Engine 2002 3.2 longblock as described above and in photos (81,328 miles). Heads, cams, valve covers, lifters, oil pump cassette, accessories, intake, plenum, throttle body, most everything has been removed. Includes wiring harness, no ECU, no clutch. $1,500 Stock manifolds/cats (Left and Right) $275 Stock secondary cats (Left and Right) $275 68 mm throttle body (stock) $60 Shifter (6 speed boxster) $100 https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c682faea6f.jpg Before disassembly https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a2cc16dd01.jpg Current state https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...16d744f722.jpg Disassembled parts https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...80fb102bcb.jpg Dammage to the oil pump cassette.
