I shipped a 996 hard top from the Chicago suburbs to Miami and it cost me about $75 in lumber and $160 to have a woodworker friend make me a crate. I used R&L carriers as they have lift-gate service on pick-up and delivery and it cost about $350 or so. The 986 roof is smaller but the costs should be similar.
