I have recently replaced my low mileage (31K) 996 shifter with a 997 unit ($240.00) (shorter , consistent throws )and wanted offer up this one for those who might have one with 75K or higher miles w sloppy shifting. I will include alignment bridge to aid in install. (45 minutes) . Pretty easy to install if you follow many instructions on web (B+M, You Tube, etc.)
